Success
5 ESSENTIAL FACTORS THAT WILL DETERMINE YOUR SUCCESS IN LIFE
We all want to look, feel, and find success in life. No one grows up wanting to be a failure who is broke, overweight, unemployed and destitute. However, this is the unfortunate reality for many. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we follow certain philosophies and actions, we can reverse whatever negative path we may have stumbled upon, to one where our success is pretty much guaranteed – provided we stay the course.
This then begs the question: what are the best practices to ensure my success in life? Glad you asked! Many people mistakenly assume that success is achieved through one GIANT leap that bridges the gap between where they are and where they want to be.
But the reality is, success – in any endeavor or undertaking – is a process that’s strung together by countless minuscule, daily actions taken over a prolonged period of time. There are many moving parts. And in this article, I have compiled a list of 5 essential factors that will determine your success in life.
Let’s get started.
KEY FACTORS FOR FINDING MORE SUCCESS IN LIFE
1. Habits
Your habits are one of the most important factors that will determine where you end up in this world. What you do (and fail to do) is guiding your life every single day in a particular direction.
The question you should ask yourself is: are my present habits bringing me to where I want to go? Making sure your habits are aligned with your grandest goals and dreams is one of the essential factors that will determine your success in life.
Align Your Habits With Your Goals To Achieve Success
If your goal is to run a marathon but you’re spending more time binge-watching Netflix than you are hitting the pavement, you’re on the wrong track. If you’re trying to save money for a downpayment on your first home, but you’re going out every evening for happy hour with friends, you’re on the wrong track.
I think you get the picture.
Your habits must align with your objectives, otherwise, your desires will always remain vague wishes instead of concrete goals. Whatever dream you’ve set your heart upon, be sure that you make the actions that will get you there a habit-knit staple in your daily routine.

2. Relationships
Who you allow into your inner circle will be, without a doubt, a huge contributing factor to your success in life. If you are spending your time with people who don’t contribute anything to your life, who don’t add any value in the form of support, encouragement, and positive words toward your dreams – then you need a new circle. End of story.
Life is hard enough as it is, and having big goals and ambitions that you’re trying to accomplish makes it even more difficult. The last thing you need is a negative person discouraging and demoralizing your hopes and dreams.
Do your best to associate with those who share similar goals and interests as you. These are the kinds of high-quality people that will always have a positive word to say, who will motivate you to keep pushing when you doubt yourself, and who will also give you a kick in the ass when you’re not living up to your potential. And this is because they’re on the same path as you.
They’re also reaching to achieve their goals and become all they can be. We all need people like this in our lives.
Determine Which Relationships To Cut To Ensure Success
It’s very simple, if they don’t encourage or support you, then they have got to go. Life is too short to spend any second longer than you have to in low-quality relationships with people who drag you down.
Cut out those relationships that are no longer serving you (yes, even if you’ve known them for a long time). It’s okay and perfectly natural to outgrow certain people in your life. It happens.
Don’t feel ashamed or guilty for having to pull the plug on those that refuse to grow alongside you. From there, consciously move toward and align with others who are trying to improve and better themselves.
3. Mindset
What does your current perspective look like? Do you think positively and constructively about problems and challenges? Is there an inner belief that you can learn the skills and gain the knowledge necessary to achieve success? Do you have a healthy outlook toward yourself and your abilities? Or do you just give up when the first signs of opposition and difficulty present themselves?
On the road to achievement, there will be challenges, setbacks, and arduous times. If you don’t have the proper mindset to handle these tribulations as they come, then you will throw in the towel and revert back to the comfort of your old routines and familiar ways. This is the role that your mindset plays in determining your success in life.
Many people fail to achieve their goals simply due to their own poor thinking. Having the right mindset in place is essential for any undertaking. If you don’t truly believe you’re worthy of what you want, that you are capable of getting it, and that it’s only a matter of time before it’s yours, then you’ll sabotage yourself every step of the way (oftentimes without realizing it).
How To Develop The Right Mindset For Success
From now on, start believing in your own awesomeness, start walking with a sense of power and authority in your life. Develop the right mindset about yourself and life by taking on goals and accomplishing them. And not only that, but reflect on what you’ve already accomplished – regardless of how big or small it may be – and remind yourself that if you did it once, you can do it again.
Write your new goals down, share them with friends, and work on them every day. By taking consistent action, you build momentum, and this momentum will begin to bolster your confidence in unbelievable ways – thus reinforcing the proper mindset.
It’s like what Dale Carnegie said “Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Taking action breeds confidence and courage.”

4. Drive
Another one of the main factors that will determine your success is drive. Being driven means going the extra mile, staying consistent with the daily disciplines, and not settling for subpar results that don’t satisfy you. It is essentially you rising above the status quo.
How badly do you want to achieve your goals? Are you willing to suffer through times of self-doubt and uncertainty? Can you handle other people’s judgements & ridicule? Do you have it in you to persist even when it looks and feels like nothing will ever come from your efforts?
All of these scenarios and countless others will constantly test your resolve and level of commitment. And many times, all you will have to fall back on is your drive and determination.
5. Attitude
Believe it or not, our attitude is one the biggest factors for success. Earl Nightingale who was one of the most prominent scholars of success said it best when he quipped, “It’s our attitude toward life that will determine life’s attitude toward us.”
Your current reality is nothing more than a mirror reflecting back to you exactly what you’re putting out. That’s what life is – a mirror. Often a merciless mirror giving back what you have given via your attitude.
Your attitude has an inordinate effect on the quality of your daily experience. And it is an unbelievably essential factor that will determine your success in life. It would be impossible to determine how many jobs have been lost, promotions missed, relationships ruined, and goals abandoned all because of a poor attitude.
Don’t let that be you.
How To Determine If Your Attitude Is Hindering Your Success
A good way to tell if you have a positive or negative attitude is to look at how other people respond to you. Are they happy and cheerful when you enter a room? Or do they have a scowl on their face as they try to distance themselves in an attempt to avoid you?
That will tell you everything. You are either attracting or repelling, there is no between. A positive attitude attracts, and a negative attitude repels. It’s as simple as that. Luckily, developing a positive attitude is not a difficult task.
All you really need to do is make it a priority to begin being more pleasant and upbeat everywhere you go and to everyone you meet.
Become curious about life, the world, and other people. Take a genuine interest in the lives of those around you that you see every day. Become like a child; fascinated with everything. Now granted, this will take some practice (and patience). But it will be well worth it when you begin to see the world opening up to you with new possibilities and experiences. And it all begins with a positive mental attitude.

100+ WORK ETHIC QUOTES TO HELP YOU ACHIEVE MORE
There’s a certain ingredient to success that most high achievers give a lot of credit to for their successes. Traces of this ingredient can be found in just about every success story.
Pick up any book on success, and this key success ingredient usually jumps out at you in the first few chapters. Watch any documentary or read any autobiography of high achievers who have accomplished what you aspire to do, and you’ll always hear them hint at what they owe their success to.
The Success Ingredient Available To Us All…
Often, we’re even blatantly told what separates the sucessful from the unsuccessful. Yet, we still fail to embrace this crucial success ingredient. Perhaps, it’s because it’s too simple. Or, perhaps it’s because it is rarely pleasant, and never easy. And well, most people like things to be pleasant and they love when things are easy.
But success can’t be found in either of those things. No, but it can be found in their opposites.
So, what’s the secret ingredient?
Put simply, it’s HARD WORK!
That’s right, hard work is one of the key ingredients to achievement that anyone can stake a claim in. Working hard and having a strong work ethic is available to everyone.
Achievement is a Choice
What this means is that anyone can decide to achieve more. It means that succeeding at a higher level is always a choice. It means just about anyone can make up their minds to win at this thing called life by simply choosing to embrace the pain, the discomfort, and the effort that goes into that creation process known as labor. Yes, hard work, labor, and toil is where all success stems.
But, don’t just take our word for it.
Read these work ethic quotes from the people who have done what it takes to succeed in life. Let them move you to new levels of intensity and action towards doing your best work. The result can only be a stronger work ethic. Behold:

THE LINK BETWEEN WORK ETHIC AND SUCCESS
Having a solid work ethic is one of the most important elements of success, regardless of the endeavor. Having a strong work ethic can lead to higher achievement in sports, your career, or your entrepreneurial pursuits. In fact, the people who have a good work ethic typically have the world at their finger tips.
Of course, some people still have their doubts as to why this is the case. Which is why we are writing this work ethic article; to clearly demonstrate the link between work ethic and success, and to give you the resources to strengthen yours. Our ultimate hope is that you’ll be able to leverage this information to find more success in all your endeavors.
Definition of Work Ethic
Before we get started, it is probably best that we first define what is a work ethic. So, here we go.
The definition of work ethic is the following; work ethic is the principle that hard work is intrinsically virtuous or worthy of reward. Work ethic is also a set of principles a person uses during training, work, or while pursuing a goal.
These principles guide the quantity and quality of one’s efforts in achieving their goals, and is typically characterized by consistency of effort to reach optimal production while maintaining an optimal quality of output.
In other words, a person who has a strong work ethic believes in the merits of working hard, and thus seeks to do so in all they do. As such, a person with a strong work ethic strives to consistently produce both the highest possible quality and quantity of effort towards their work.
Why You Should Aim to Have a Good Work Ethic
So, why should you strive to have a good work ethic? The answer is simple. Those who embrace the value of a good work ethic, almost always produce more and better results than their counterparts who have a lesser/weaker work ethic.
In addition to this, you should also strive to have a good work ethic because those who do always have the advantage over the person with a weak work ethic. For example, if a boat is sinking, 10 out of 10 times, the individual who most ardently and effectively works to reverse the sinking vessels demise, is the person who gets stay on the boat. It’s economics 101.
Certainly there will always be rare exceptions, especially when one adds a high degree of talent to the equation. However, talent alone rarely outperforms the individual with a strong work ethic in the long run. To be sure, there is much truth to the saying goes, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
The Link Between Work Ethic and Success
This brings us to our next point. There is a direct link between work ethic and success as a strong correlation between the two exists. Is there a scientific link between work ethic and success?
Well, we’ve been studying high achievers for nearly five years now, and here is what we documented, every individual who achieved at a high level had an above average worth ethic. They didn’t all start off with a strong work ethic at first, but eventually, all of them employed a strong work ethic by default once success became their obsession.
In addition, no one in our research ever displayed or made the case for the opposite; a weak work ethic. In fact, we noticed that the stronger the work ethic, the stronger the achievements were, and the faster their success came.
Does having a strong work ethic guarantee success? No, of course not. But, it dramatically improves your chances. That said, here’s what the correlation looks like:

What Does a Good Work Ethic Look Like?
If you’ve ever wondered what a good work ethic looks like, you don’t have to look very far. Simply observe the habits of high performers and those who have achieved a high degree of success. Pay special attention to pro athletes and how they train, study star entertainers and how they perfect their craft, and observe world-class leaders like the CEO’s of some of the worlds’ biggest companies. If you do this, or just pay attention to those getting the results you want, you’ll see what a strong work ethic looks like.
Of course, we won’t make you do all the hard work. Here are a few samples of what a strong work ethic looks like:
Michael Jordan
The NBA legend Michael Jordan would always put in the time to improve his weaknesses. For example, when he didn’t make the cut for Varsity in high school, Jordan committed to proving everyone wrong. As such, he spent all his spare time in the off season improving his game.
The result? He made Varsity the next season. Similarly, when Jordan made it to the pros, he would also spend his summers taking hundreds of jump shots a day, till he perfected his shot. Jordan knew, that if he want to be the best, he would have to put in the work to be better than his competition.
Khabib Nurmagomedov
Undefeated UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov wanted to achieve the title of the best in the world. As such, he would willingly put himself through the most grueling trainings. Training sessions that he intentionally made to be longer and more arduous than his competitors’ training sessions.
As such, his trainings days would consist of him waking up, training, then going to school. And after school, he would train again, then finish his studies for school, and after he would finishing up his homework, he would often train again for a third time, even if it meant training by himself.
Nurmagomedov’s training regimen and work ethic was superior to his peers, and the result was the creation of an undefeated UFC champion.
Elon Musk
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, and founder of Space X and a bunch of other successful businesses, is well known for having a strong work ethic. One of his most well known bits of advice, that he’s given to countless entrepreneurs is for them to double their efforts and aim to work two-times as hard as their competitors to succeed.
In short, his advice is this, if you want to be successful, you must have a strong work ethic. He’s says it best with the following quote, “Work hard, like, every waking hour.”
Mark Cuban
Mark Cuban is not stranger to hard work either. In fact, before he found his massive success, it wasn’t uncommon for him to be working past 2.am in the morning to ensure he know the ins-and-outs of the product software he was selling. Even to this day, Mark states that he spends a least three hours reading a day. He does this to gain an advantage, because he knows others won’t and because of the edge it will give him.
On top of this, Cuban has also been known to work for over seven years without a vacation in his start-up days. Now that is a strong work ethic, and sums up his take on work ethic best when he said, “It’s not about the money or connections. It’s the willingness to outwork and outlearn everyone.”
Tim Cook
Tim Cook is the uber-successful CEO of Apple. He’s certainly does not have the talent of Steve Jobs, but he makes up in effort and work-ethic what he lacks in natural talent. In fact, he’s quite famous within his organization for being the first in the office and always the last to leave.
In addition to this, he starts firing off emails to his employees before many of them are even awake at the ridiculously early hour of 4:30 am, and he hold staff meetings on Sundays in order to be prepared for Mondays.
Certainly, Tim Cook is not the only exception; as a CEO work ethic is something to be admired. In fact, we’d venture to say that most CEO’s have an above average work ethic (which is why they get paid the big bucks), and it’s a good reason you should strive to have one too.
