How To Unleash Your Inner Rock God and Start Winning in Life

Imagine for a second, this dad screaming at his son at the top of his lungs.  He’s yelling at him because his son wants to do his own thing.  Because the son wants to choose his own music.

This overbearing father scolds his kid, and bullies him for indulging in music that he doesn’t like.  The choice of music was not something his pops approved of, nor was wasting precious time fiddling with a guitar.

The poor kid gets berated for doing what he loves, versus doing what his dad thinks he should be doing.  The dad likely wishes his son would just do what everyone else was doing.  Doing what he likes.  If only the boy would submit to his way of thinking, to his way of living.

After yelling at his son for a full minute the father asks his son one last question.  He yells his final condescending question, as spit spews from his mouth…

“What Do You Want to Do With Your Life?!”

To which the young chap takes a second to decide how he should respond.  No doubt he’s scared, but he decides to be brave.

Our bold young hero, stands up for himself, nervously answering the question with the strum of his guitar.

His answer?

And just like that… Poof!  The overbearing father is blown out the window and out of the scene.  The son chooses his path.  He stands up to his oppressor, and his oppressor magically disappears.

Can you relate to the scene?  Perhaps we all can.  Especially when considering our youth.

If this scene sounds familiar, it’s because you’ve likely seen it.

The powerful scene was from a music video created by one of the most popular rock bands of the 80’s.

The song has mostly been accepted as an anthem for teenagers standing up to their parent’s well-intended, but often misguided advice for how they should live their lives.

But you know what?  It is not just an anthem for teens.  It is an anthem that is relevant to both you and I, in the here and now.

Too many people are still living their parent’s dreams.  Way too many people are still stuck living someone else’s script.

And that is why this song is still relevant.

It is an anthem for anybody who is ready to put up a fight for what they want.  It’s an anthem for anyone who is tired of being a slave to expectation.

I used to be a slave to expectation.

I spent years being a slave to a job I hated.

I spent years feeling like I had to work a certain kind of job, get a certain type of degree, and live a certain kind of life…just to be deemed “successful”.

I once succumbed to this shadowy external pressure.  It’s a familiar pressure that you’ve probably felt.  A pressure that may follow you to this day.  Pressing you to go against your interests so that you can maintain that cozy feeling of acceptance by your peers and family.

Fortunately, a day came when I stood up.  And let the world know what I wanted do.  I was working at a job I hated for far too long, and decided I was no longer gonna take it.  I decided that I was not going to be forced to live a life I DIDN’T WANT TO LIVE.

I decided to make my own path.  Much like our young hero, I decided to rock!  And so should you.

Start Winning

Since then, there’s been no looking back.   I jumped ship on the path that society was laying out for me… a path that looked something like this:

Go to school,

Go to college,

Get a degree,

Get a job,

Get married,

Have kids,

Go Into Debt

Work at a job you hate to pay your debt,

Get laid off, find another job you hate so you can continue paying your debt,

Keep following this exact same pattern ad infinitum until you die.

No Thank You!

Life is meant to be an adventure, not some monotonous predictable process. We are not automatons in some complex mechanical system.  We are humans, fluid, and meant to live life fully.

We’re meant to rock!

I’ve always secretly wanted to be a Rockstar!  In a way I’ve been granted my wish!  I am a Rockstar!  A Business Rockstar!

What’s a Business Rockstar you ask?

A person who wakes up every morning on fire to go rock their business, their art, and loves every minute of it.  A person who’s tapped their inner Rock God!

But this is my definition.  When you decide to do what you truly want, you can make up your own.

I chose my path years ago.  I had to.  Because before I was on a go-nowhere highway.  I was on a path devoid of fire, passion.

It’s hard to rock when you’re playing someone else’s song.

Now, there’s been many ups and many more downs. I’ve had to go back to a J.O.B. time and time again to pay some bills, to reset, to recalibrate.

But, I chose my path, and now I know my path.

And so, I will always manage to pry myself away again and again to get back on it.  And I’ll keep doing so until I reach my aim.  Until my song is fully sung.

This my friend is rocking!  This my friend, is living!

If you are happy, and you are doing exactly what you want to be doing, then good for you.  Consider yourself of winner, a Rockstar!

But, if you have stumbled upon this page, and you are not happy, or you feel like a cog in the wheel of life.  If you feel like you are only doing what you do because of some fear of judgement or fear of failure, then I suggest you stand up, take back your life, and proclaim your wish to the world…TO ROCK!”

And if you do indeed wish to rock, here a few tips to help you break free.   Tips to help you unleash your inner Rock God!

Start Winning

Before I give you the key to unleash your inner Rock God, I have a few questions for you.

What do you want to do with your life?  No Really.

When will you decide, that you’re not gonna take it anymore?  How long will you keep putting off your dreams and aspirations for someone else?  How long will you keep ignoring what you really want to do with your life?

Maybe it is time you stand up to your inner bully and internal demons.  It’s time to take a stand against those judgmental people that have kept you trapped.   Maybe today is that day, the day you decide… to ROCK!

Today can be your new starting point.  The day you begin building an army of one.  The day you unleash your inner Rock God, and start winning in life and business!

What do I mean by tapping your inner Rock God?

I mean to take a stand for you.   To rebel against a life that doesn’t serve you.

Are you ready?

If so, follow these rules and you will unleash the Rock God that resides within you.

Find a way to discover what your true interests are.  If you do this, you will be making the decision to follow your heart and your art much easier.

Why?  Because when you know what you want, it is easier to look for clues that will lead you to your goal.

And when you know where to look, you can set your sights on something.  And when you can set your sites on something, going for it becomes easier.

But when you haven’t spent any time examining your life, and you haven’t taken the time to realize if the life you are leading is really the life you want, then you keep yourself shackled.

You can’t break the chains you are in, if you don’t know you’re in them.

Just as you can’t be free if you never open your eyes to see.

If you never open your eyes to reality, and truly question what it is you were meant to be, how can you ever live fully?

So, discover your true interests, and the steps you will eventually need to take to begin truly living, will begin to appear.

Standing up for your life will require guts.  You’ve heard the saying, ‘No guts, No Glory’.  Well, if you don’t get some guts, you’ll never get any glory.  And if you never get your glory, you will diminish your story.

What story?  Your story, the story of your life!  Without guts, without standing up to live the life you’ve always wanted, you hand over your power to someone else.  You lose, and they win.

But you my friend are not a loser.  You’re a winner.  So get some guts, go get some glory, and then get started on rewriting your great story!

Make up your mind to start helping yourself first.  If you can’t help yourself, you won’t be able to help anybody else.  Airline companies know this, that is why whenever you fly somewhere, they have their flight attendants instruct you, that in the event of an emergency, you are to put your mask on first, and then you can help whoever is depending on you, with theirs.

You must take care of the golden goose. A dead golden goose doesn’t lay any golden eggs.

If you become incapacitated, then so too will whoever is depending on you to help them.

If your family is depending on you to do something great with your life, start by doing what you think is great for your life, not them.

If you do what is right for them, but not right for you, everyone loses, because you’ll be unhappy.  And an unhappy you can never do anything great.

But, if you follow your instinct, you have a real shot at some day achieving something great.

If you follow their suggestions, you will always remain bound.  They will be happy, but you won’t be.

Follow your instinct, take care of you, and the rest will fall into place.

Lastly, you need to become You Inc.  Start treating everything you do like you are your own business.  Become responsible for your life, take ownership of it.

In the typical corporate setting, if things don’t go as planned all blame is placed on the CEO.  If the CEO is not taking care of business, the CEO gets axed.

Now you can’t be replaced like a CEO can when we are talking about your own life.  But you can fire your old self, and hire the new more responsible you.  The new you who takes full responsibility for his life.  Become the new you.  Become You. Inc.

You should even take this a step further, and actually become your own corporation.

Why not?  You might as well fully own yourself.

Go form your own limited liability company and become your own brand.  Go do your homework, figure out how the capitalist system works, and then make the system work for you, instead of you working for the system.

This is the quickest path to doing what you love and making a lot of money while doing it.

This is the quickest path to rock’n your life!  So, become You Inc., take ownership of you by finding a way to do what you love, while serving people at the same time.   It’s Win Win!

If you are doing something you hate.  If you are living a life that has been laid out by someone else.  If you are following someone else’s dream, you are not being true to yourself.   And if you are not being true to yourself, you’ll never truly be happy.

If you haven’t guessed it by now, the song I referenced earlier was by Twisted Sister and is titled, “We’re Not Gonna Take It!”

These are the lyrics that resonate with the theme of this post.  They are the lyrics you should take to heart the most:

We’ve got the right to choose and
There ain’t no way we’ll lose it
This is our life, this is our song
We’ll fight the powers that be just
Don’t pick our destiny cause
You don’t know us, you don’t belong

We don’t want nothin’, not a thing from you
Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated

We’re right! (YEAH!)
We’re free! (YEAH!)
We’ll fight! (YEAH!)
You’ll see! (YEAH!)

We’re not gonna take it
No, we ain’t gonna take it
We’re not gonna take it anymore

Take a stand to do your own thing.   Take as stand to finally begin your unwritten book, your unsung song, or your calling as an artist.  It means you should get started on whatever that thing is that brings you to life, that thing that makes you wanna rock!

You may have prostituted your talent, sold out to the Man, like I have time and time again.  But it doesn’t matter if you have.  What matters is that you stay true.  What matters is that you keep taking a stand for you.

Yes, you may make the leap, and it may not work out for you (at first).  But you can always go back to get on track.   And when the time is right, you just have to be willing to jump back into your dream, realizing that your setbacks are all a part of your apprenticeship, all a part of the journey to unleash your greatest life.

So, if you are currently slaving away in some sell-out job, or you are living a shadow career instead of your true calling, don’t fret.  It’s all part of the journey.   Just don’t get stuck there.

But at some point, you are gonna have claim your right to create your art.  To tap into the life you’ve always wanted to live.  The life you were meant to live.

That life is waiting for you.  Hoping that someday you’ll have the courage to call out to it.  When that day comes, all you will have to say are the following words, and you will be free:

We’re right! (YEAH!)
We’re free! (YEAH!)
We’ll fight! (YEAH!)
You’ll see! (YEAH!)

We’re not gonna take it
No, we ain’t gonna take it
We’re not gonna take it anymore

So stop taking it!  If you must take something, take a stand to rock.  Go forth and do that thing that makes you come alive!  Choose your own music, unleash your inner Rock God, and start winning in life.
