HOW TO BE ACTION ORIENTED: 5 WAYS TO TAKE MORE ACTION ON BIG GOALS
If you want to know how to be more action oriented then you’ll enjoy this write-up. It’s about learning how to become action oriented and getting motivated to start taking more action on what we really want in life.
So, if you’re someone who overthinks things, or gets caught up and paralyzed by analysis paralysis more often then you’d like to admit, then you’ll love what this article has in store for you. In short, this article is for you if you want to know how to be more action oriented or if you’re ready to become an action taker.
So, if that sounds like you, then let’s dive in:
Action Defined
First things first, we need to get clear on what action is. Now when I say action, I am not talking about movement, or just doing more of the same old things that you’ve been doing.
When I say action, I am talking about encouraging people to tap their fire. I am talking about digging deep to discover what that THING that brings you most to life is, and then taking action, fearless action towards bringing that dream or possibility that lights YOU up the most, to life.
Put another way, I am talking about the action that moves you closer to reaching your big life goals. Any action or activity that leads to the progressive realization of a worthy goal.
To give you a better sense of what I am talking about, let me tell you about a story my mentor would always use.
Motivation From a Mentor
This mentor would always speak about this poem that his father would post on his fridge when he was growing up. His father posted this poem on the fridge so that he and his brother could see the words from this poem every day before going to school.
Here is what the poem read:
“Spring has past, Summer has gone and Winter is here…. And the song that I meant to sing…. remains unsung, for I have spent my days stringing and unstringing my instrument.”
My mentor would go on to reveal how his father would later tell him exactly what that poem meant.
He said that the poem was written by a man whose heart was filled with regret over a life half lived.
The man was always getting ready to sing the great song of his life, he was always getting ready to start achieving, he was always getting ready to start fulfilling all the possibilities of what his life was meant be. But he got busy being busy.
That poem and the way my mentor expressed it, was such a powerful reminder to me….to pursue all that we want in this life.
In fact, I tell it to you now, because it encouraged me to not back down from my aspirations, and most importantly, to just GO for it.
Action Is The Key
So, that’s what I want to put urgency around today, taking action. And like I said before, not just any action, but action on the things that really matter to you, and your life. ACTION on the BIG Things!!
Action on those ideas, dreams, and aspirations that you have, the one’s that you’ve yet to act on.
You know what I am talking about. I am talking about getting started on that book you’ve always wanted to write, or the business you’ve always dreamed of starting, or that position that you’ve secretly wished you could obtain.
I am talking about taking ACTION on those things you REALLY, REALLY Want, but for some reason have yet to take action on.
Life is too short and precious to just sit on those good ideas you have….to just sit on those dreams that you really, truly, deeply want to pursue. Life is too short to not be fearless for what you truly and deeply want.
Execution Is Everything
Ideation without Execution is nothing more than delusion……. Let’s stop being part of cult of the delusional, the cult of mediocrity! Remember, less action leads to fewer results. And the fewer results you’re getting, the more difficult it is to finetune your success.
Instead…choose to be one of those braves souls who walks out there an executes flawlessly around your ideas. Please…consider being one of the brave and bold who actually GO FOR IT.
Last I checked, there was a survey that said…. 70% of all employees hate their job. If this is you…take ACTION to change that. Don’t just coast along and be unhappy doing something you hate.
GO Find a job you like, strike that, find one you LOVE. Go pursue that dream project you’ve been dying to do!
Whatever you do, just make sure you’re not sitting there wallowing in your misery. You deserve better than that!! Take action and go get your happiness….
I read some time ago an article on the Guardian, that mentioned the number one regret of the dying, was that they wished they had the courage to live a life true to themselves, not the life others expected of them.
Jeff Bezos once said… “ I knew that if I failed, I wouldn’t regret that, but the one thing I might regret was not trying”.
If you’re trying means starting a business, well go start a business. If you don’t know where to start…well take action on finding out where to start.
Is it you writing a book? If so, well get going on writing it. TAKE SOME ACTION…. any ACTION. More action leads to more results. And the more results or data you get, the more you can adjust your action towards the success you seek.

With that being said, here’s a short list of actionable steps that you can use to become more action oriented, starting today. So here we go:
TOP TIPS ON HOW TO BE MORE ACTION-ORIENTED
1. Hunt for Your Time
What do I mean by this? What I mean is pay attention to how you’re spending every minute of your day. Make every minute count!
Pay attention like you are on the hunt…. When you’re hunting, all your senses or ON. You’re hyper focused, you see, feel, and hear everything! You must show the same vigilance with your time… Your time is the prey.
We have only so many minutes in a day… and when we aren’t being vigilant with our time, we squander possibilities for taking the action that is necessary for creating the change we want in our lives. Be on the hunt for your time, then make the kill (take ACTION)!
2. Take Action Quickly
The faster you take action on an idea… the more likely you are going to take continued action on that idea or project that is going to create the results you’re looking for in your life. When you start to take action quickly, everything will start to change for you!
Don’t end up on some day island. Some-day island is that place that many people end up on, because they always say…or I’ll get to that thing, project, dream someday… and as a result, they become permanent residents of someday isle.
Speed matters.
3. Act on Your Intuition
Trust your gut. Listening to your instincts is huge. In fact, if you are feeling unhappy, disgusted, bored, or negative about anything, those may be sign posts that you should pay attention to.
Listen to what your intuition is suggesting as an alternative…. then ACT on those suggestions. Many if not most CEOs and leaders do it. The Navy invests millions in its marine’s to do it, so perhaps you should too.[1]
When you practice obeying your internal nudge, you’ll start to become happier. You’ll also positively impact those around you by doing so as well.
But most importantly, when you listen to you intuition, it typically leads to positive action. And positive action leads to positive results.
4. Take Action Daily
Momentum is critical. Without out continuous action, you’ll never make any progress on your goals. This is a challenge for many people, but, it is a must. So, if you have trouble staying consistent with taking action, scale down on your action.
If you can find a way to take even the smallest actions, you will be better off than if hadn’t taken any action. Ultimately, you will soon be making huge strides in comparison to your contemporaries who don’t or won’t take action.
Make taking action a daily habit.
5. Take Action Now
The right time is always right now!!! Identify the risks involved, identify the fears you may have, and then smash through those suckers like a human wrecking ball!
Don’t let overthinking impede your decision making. Stop overanalyzing everything, and break free from the grips of analysis paralysis by getting in the habit of doing things immediately.[2]
Start by doing something today.

BONUS Tip on How To Be Action Oriented
Here’s our last tip, and it is by far the most important step you could take if you truly want to know how to be an action oriented person. This step, if done right, can transform you in an instant.
I recommended following your dreams and I gave you some practical steps that you could apply to help you take more action. But all of those things revolve around your doing this:
Create for yourself a goal or vision that excites you. Sure, following your dreams is a part of that, but until you plan out how you go about obtaining that vision, your efforts will be luke-warm.
So, create a vision that is exciting, and then put that vision down on paper, along with when you intend to achieve it. Then, let that vision pull you into action. But don’t just take my word for it, it’s sage advice that even the late and great co-founder of Apple recommends….
Conclusion
Alright, here’s a quick recap on how to be action oriented:
- Hunt For Your Time
- Take Action Quickly
- Act on Your Intuition
- Take Action Daily
- Take Action Immediately
- Create a Goal The Pulls You
With that said, I am going to leave you with a few quotes to ponder, to keep you lit and fired up for taking action on your dreams and desires. This quote is by Bono, the legendary lead singer of U2, and he said:
I love this quote… so what does it mean? It means, we have more power and ability to craft our lives into the amazing life that we’ve up until this point dreamed it to be.
This last quote is by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and he stated:
What I take from this quote, is this…. when you are taking action towards your dreams, your wants, your hopes, your happiness, YOU BECOME the hammer. Take action my friends…. BECOME the hammer, and start forging the life you’ve always dreamed of, start molding your masterpiece… YOUR LIFE!!
ACTION…..ACTION…..ACTION!
Alright my friend, I hoped you got something from this article. I hope it has primed you to at the very least take some action, today. That said, here are a few additional quotes to help you make things happen:

10 WAYS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS IN 2025
Setting goals is a crucial part of success. No matter what you want to achieve in life, be it in your career, relationships, or in business, identifying what you want to achieve and then making a plan to move toward that destination is one of the most important steps of all.
When you know what you want and the exact outcome you desire, you can then create a plan and take action to get there. This is why setting goals works. Extraordinary people are able to produce amazing results in life because they have a clear goal that they want to achieve in mind. They know what they want, and then they get to work on their goals, every single day.
With that being said, if you want to master yourself, achieve greater results in life, and ultimately make your dreams a reality, you’ll need to learn how to set and achieve your goals. So, here are the top 10 ways to achieve your goals in 2025. Enjoy!
Top 10 Ways To Achieve Your Goals This Year
1. Always Keep Your Goals in Your Mind
One of the most common reasons why some people fail at their goals while others succeed at them, is that those who successfully achieved their goals are really adept at keeping their goals top of mind.
Of course, this is easier said than done. But, it is backed up by the one of the most well-known success phrases of all-time…“You become what you think about most of the time”. It’s a phrase that conveys the fact that your life is organized around your thoughts. Hence, your dominant thoughts will determine how you will live your life.
If you always think about having not enough money, guess what, you will not be having enough money. You will find it hard to come up with extra money and there are always more days left at the end of the money.
Your thoughts dictate your life. Tony Robbins once said, “Where you focus goes, energy flows”, thus, if you always think about your goals and focus on them, that’s what you will create in your life. So, always choose to consciously think about your goals.
This is why you need to write down your goals, review them, visualize them, and see yourself achieve them. Make a vision board for your goals if you want to.
2. Make Sure Your Goals Align With Your Inner Values
Next up on the list of top 10 ways to achieve your goals is to ensure they align with your values. Yes, you have to make sure your goals align with your inner values. You don’t want to set a goal that is not in harmony with your values.
For example, if you are someone who values security more than adventure, setting a goal like traveling alone around the world may not work for you. Even if you force yourself to do it, you will not enjoy the progress and the experience.
Here’s another example, many people set income goals. And if money isn’t their main purpose, their goals will never work. They will find it hard to come up with the drive to put themselves into action and they will find ways to sabotage their own success.
This is what happens when your goals conflict with your values. Instead, learn to set goals that align with your inner values. Set goals that make your heart sing.

3. Make Your Goals Measurable
Are your goals measurable? Most people set very general and vague goals like, “I want to become rich”, or “I want to be happy”, etc., but these goals are vague, and they are not measurable.
Let me ask you, if your goal is to live a happy life, how do you know when you have achieved it? That’s the problem. When your goal isn’t measurable, you will never know when you have reached it.
So, make your goals quantifiable. Make them measurable so that you can tell when you have reached them. Plus, when something is measurable, you can then come up with a specific action plan to achieve it.
If your goals are not measurable, you will work day and night without knowing if you have reached them.
4. Identify the Lead Measures
Lead measure is an important measure of your goals. Most people focus on their main target or the results they want, but they don’t focus on their lead measures, and this is why they fail.
Your lead measures are the measures that directly impact the results of your goals.
For instance, if your goal is to lose weight, the two main lead measures are exercise and diet. How much time do you spend to exercise each week? And do you track your diet and calorie intake?
You see, these two measures will directly impact your goal of losing weight. If you want to achieve your goal, then all you need to do is to focus on the two lead measures: exercise and diet.
And you hit your exercise and diet target, you will automatically reach your weight loss goal.
Here’s another classic example. If you want to increase your sales, what should you do? You focus on prospecting and presentation. The more prospects you present to, the higher your number of sales. Therefore, the number of prospects you approach, and sales presentation you deliver are the two lead measures you must work on.
When you achieved your lead measure goals, you will achieve your main goal, which is to increase your sales. So, focus and work on the lead measures.
5. Focus on Making Progress
Next, don’t always think about your goals and the results, when it comes to maintaining your momentum, you need to focus on making progress.
As a blogger, one of my goals is to build a huge responsive subscribers list from my blog. But if I focus on the result, the number of subscribers I get each day, I’m going to fail. Why? When I first started, my blog is new and there are no visitors and subscribers.
So, if I think about my goal of having a ton of subscribers, I will feel dejected, lose my motivation, and eventually give up on my blog. Instead, I choose to focus on making progress.
I know that if I want to grow my subscribers, I will need to publish new articles consistently. Hence, I focus on publishing content. Every time I published a new article, I celebrate and reward myself. I feel good about it and it drives me to continue publishing new content.
And so, day after day, I make progress. And slowly, the number of visitors to my blog increases, and the same goes for my number of subscribers.
Can you notice the difference? Having a goal is important, but to achieve your goal, you need to make progress. Hence, it is more important to focus on the progress than to only think about your goals and do nothing.
Let your progress motivate you and get you to your goals.
6. Work on Improving Yourself Every Day
There is no way you can achieve your goals if you don’t improve yourself. You are where you are because of what you know and what you do. If you want to get to a new place, you need to do something different, and that requires you to improve yourself.
I love to give an example of playing games. If the character in your game is at level 3 and you need to fight a level 5 enemy, you will find the enemy difficult to beat. But as you play the game, gain better experience, and level up your character, say to level 8, the same level 5 enemy will be easy to beat.
Therefore, work on improving your level. When the size of you increase, the problem will become a small problem.
It is the size of you that matters, not the size of the problem. If you think you are having a big problem right now, it is because the size of you is small. You must learn to improve yourself so that the problems become no problem for you.

7. Set Goals That Are Fun and Exciting
Think about it, if something isn’t fun or exciting, will you have the motivation to achieve it? Obviously, the answer is no. But unfortunately, that’s what most people do. They set goals that are not fun or exciting to them.
You have to understand that if you want to achieve your goals, your goals must be fun and exciting so that you will want to wake up each morning and work on them. If your goals are boring and uninspiring, you will choose to continue to sleep than to wake up and chase them.
Set a goal that makes your heart sing. Be passionate about your goals and make sure you are excited when you think, talk, and work on your goals.
8. Make Your Goals Challenging
Besides making your goals fun and exciting, you must also make them challenging. Why? Because that’s the only way you can grow.
You see, Albert Einstein once said, “A ship is safe at the harbor, but that’s not why it is built for.” Your life is meant to be fun, exciting, and challenging. You want to live a remarkable life, isn’t it? Hence, make your goals challenging.
Think about it, if you are currently earning $5,000 a month, making an additional $100 isn’t going to make you jump out of your bed in the morning. What you want is to have a goal that is challenging and inspiring.
You want your goals to force you out of your comfort zone so that you can grow and become someone better, and worthy of the goals.
9. Take Baby Steps Each Day
It doesn’t matter how big your goals or how difficult they are, as long as you take baby steps and make progress each day, you will eventually get to your goals.
The key is in making progress every day. You can’t achieve your goals by thinking about them, you need to do something.
There is a saying, “If you swing the ax five times, every day, eventually the tree will fall.” Yes, no matter how big the tree, if you just swing an ax at it just five times a day, it will eventually fall.
The same principle applies to your life and your goals. As long as you take action and persist in working on your goals every day, you will eventually arrive at your destination.
Therefore, be consistent. Commit to taking at least 5 baby steps each day, and trust me, you will achieve your goals faster than you thought possible.
10. Believe in Your Goals and Trust Yourself That You Can Do It
Last up on this list of the 10 ways to achieve your goals is related to belief. You need to believe in your goals and trust yourself that you can do it. First, you must believe that your goals are possible. And second, you must trust that you can achieve them.
When you truly believe you can achieve your goals, you will do whatever it takes to reach them. Think about why people buy lottery tickets. Well, it is because they believe that they stand a chance to win, right? If you don’t believe you stand a chance to win, you will never bother buying the lottery ticket.
The same goes for your goals. When you believe that you can achieve them, you will do it with a 100% commitment rather than a half-hearted attempt.
Therefore, believe that your goals are possible and trust that you can achieve them.
Conclusion
There is no way you are going to achieve your goals if you all you do is sit there and do nothing. Reading this article is good because it helps you understand what you need to do to achieve the results you want, but until you implement the knowledge and take action, nothing is going to happen.

WHY CONSISTENCY AND PERSISTENCE BREEDS SUCCESS
If you study enough success stories, you’ll eventually come to the conclusion that success demands both consistency and persistence. Sure, every so often you’ll have an outlier where someone actually achieved massive success within just a few short years. But barring being well-connected, having an extraordinary IQ or talent, or even a highly advantageous financial starting point, most instances of enduring success have been achieved by ordinary everyday people who consistently persisted. There’s no doubt about it, consistency and persistence breeds success.
Consistently persisting in the face of failure, against seemingly insurmountable odds, and despite when results are meager or forthcoming, is one of the most powerful keys to success. It’s almost a universal law, almost. But don’t just take our word for it. Take a look at a few of these examples, and you be the judge:
CONSISTENCY AND PERSISTENCE
Consistency and Persistence In Compounding Interest
Albert Einstein believed that compound interest was one of the major wonders of the world. Here’s what he said exactly, “Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t, pays it.”
For example, if you persisted in consistently investing just $10 a day into an generic S&P 500 index fund (assuming a 12% interest rate) for 30 years, you’d be a millionaire. The compound effort of your investment, and the compounding growth on each year’s growth, eventually leads to a breakthrough. And after that breakthrough, stratospheric growth typically follows.
If you’re wondering why we’re talking about compounding interest, it’s because both consistency and persistence is a key component. The magic of compounding interest isn’t possible without a consistent and persistent reinvestment. And the same goes for success in just about every category.
If you change up the amount your investing, and drop down to one cent a day versus the $10, your end result will be dramatically different. Which is why consistency is a critical component of this success equation.
Similarly, persistence is key as well, because if reinvestment stops, or the money is removed from growing in the market, the growth potential of that money also stops.
Hence, the success of compound growth relies on both consistency and persistence.
The Consistency and Persistence of a River
Here’s another example of the power of persistence and consistency. The Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is 10 miles wide, about 1 mile deep, and over 277 miles in length and is truly a site to see.
Now the Grand Canyon didn’t become grand all by itself. It actually required the help of a little persistent river known as the Colorado River. This river over the years, slowly, gradually, but eventually wore down the massive sedimentary rock that got in its way.
Now, if the river was diverted somehow long long ago, and the flow stopped, there would be no grand canyon. Or if the flow was strangled down to a weak little trickle, similarly there might be a canyon, but it wouldn’t be so grand.
Fortunately, the river flowed unfettered and free for millions of years. And thus, the persistent and unyielding consistent flow of the Colorado River succeeded in creating one of the most awe inspiring canyons in the world.
Imagine what you could create if you followed this river’s lead.
The Consistency and Persistence of Success
Here’s how consistency and persistence breeds success for people. First off, it usually works out best for those who are striving to reach their goals, as it requires intention.
After long periods of time comprising of sustained effort and persistent action, little success is typically seen in the beginning.
Sometimes, you’ll have to go years before you see any significant and worthwhile progress. Much like the example of compounding interest just mentioned, you’ll have to persist in consistently stacking effort upon effort, habit upon habit, accomplishment upon accomplishment. No doubt, there may even be a few setbacks thrown in along the way.
But, after persisting long enough, your consistent effort will eventually get you to your breakthrough point. This is a point just about every person experiences on their journey towards success.
So long as you dig deep, tap into your grit and consistently persist, you’ll eventually get there. And once you do, your small successes will begin to accelerate. You’ll have more and more wins, and eventually you’ll be able to use those wins, as solid stepping stones to get to the achievement and success you’ve been chasing for so long.
If you want to experience success, you must be consistent in effort and actions. You must be consistent in your persistence.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Consistency and persistence breeds success. If you want to achieve something grand, or if you just want to reach an important goal, remember that you can achieve it. You’ll just have to commit to being consistent in your efforts, and persist in doing whatever it takes till you reach your breakthrough point. And then, persist a little more.
Till you reach those aims,
