3 UNCONVENTIONAL WAYS TO GET INSTANT MOTIVATION

Published

on

Instant Motivation

If you’re searching for some of the most effective (albeit unconventional) methods for instant motivation, then this page is for you.

Imagine you get home one day and you’re completely exhausted. You’ve long since mentally checked out as you drift towards your comfortable couch. And all you want to do is switch off completely.

You lazily drop onto your couch and go straight for the smartphone for some Youtube and Netflix relaxation.

Then you remember:

“Ah, I wanted to work out.”

“Right, I’m supposed to work on my new business…”

“I forgot, I was going to start drawing again.”

But the absolute last thing you feel like doing is, well, anything at all! Problem is… you can tell your mood is in full control, and once again, you’re probably not going to do any goal-oriented work at all. And that means achieving your dreams has been delayed for the umpteenth once again.

Luckily, I’ve been there before. And I’ve come up with a few unconventional ways to get around this. And the results have been a good dose of instant motivation. Great news is, you can get the same results. But first we need to go over why what you’ve been doing hasn’t worked.

Your Motivation Is In The Wrong Place

The reality is, you actually ARE motivated in all situations – even after a hard day’s work.

But the problem is your mood is motivating you to relax and take it easy instead. The human body is an energy conserving machine, and this is worsened when you’re mentally drained. This makes it harder to redirect your attention and motivation onto more worthwhile endeavors.

(Which means you’re FAR more likely to look at cat videos on Youtube than further your goals)

The Conventional Motivation Methods You’ve Tried Don’t Work

Most motivation tips focus on self-discipline or habit building. And those approaches can be pretty helpful for the right person.

But if you’ve already tried those tactics and they haven’t stuck with you, then chances are, you’re in need of something different. In fact, you might have to try something that others find a bit scary.

Tap Into The Dark Side of Motivation

There’s another path to instant motivation that others might find a bit “hardcore.” But as somebody who’s been in the self-improvement game for over 14 years, and has practically tried it all, I can personally attest to this “dangerous” path of instant motivation as a viable strategy.

And if you’ve struggled to stick with your goals long term (let alone be able to complete them), I highly suggest you give them a shot.

Instant Motivation Tips

1. Let Your Anger Take Over

Anger tends to get a bad rap. But there’s one thing nobody can argue about – that anger makes you want to lash out with some kind of action.

Done poorly, anger makes you do dumb things that you might regret.

Done effectively, however, and you can turn anger into a powerful weapon of productivity.

My favorite method of using anger is by turning my fears and anxieties into trash-talking rivals.

For example, I remember I was nervous about sending a potential client my expected rates to work with me. I was afraid to send that email because I feared a negative response from them. So I dilly-dallied at every opportunity and flat out refused to click “send.”

Well, that was a garbage situation to be in, so I started imagining a person was poking fun at my indecisiveness.

“Pfft, you won’t send it, will you?”

“Wow, so manly of you to fear pressing a button.”

“If it were me, I would’ve sent that hours ago.”

Eventually, I got so annoyed at that imaginary person that I slammed my finger on the keyboard and sent that email… just to shut him up. Surprisingly, I was egged on into productivity.

I still use this when my anxiety is maxed out about a task. It seems to work best that way. To use this, all you’ve got to do is pick a person from your past that you hate or at least annoys the bejeezus out of you, and imagine they’re on your case about not doing your work.

(Bonus points if they keep mentioning how they would do it better)

With this tactic, I’d bet $100 you’d get your task done just to shut them up in the first place.

2. Let The Pressure Get To You

High-schoolers everywhere can testify to the power of peer pressure.

It’s in our nature to look at what everybody else is doing to guide our own actions. But now, you can use this tendency to your advantage.

Here’s how – encourage your family and friends to “peer pressure” you into working on your goals. For example, whenever you get home from work (or whenever your work-from-home stuff is officially over), tell your family to goad you into exercising or writing your book, or whatever is that matters to you.

(Even better if your family ALSO works on their biggest goals as well, which would foster a culture of goal-achievement)

Some good phrases are “Come on, we’re all doing it, so you should too!” Or “Wouldn’t you like it if you looked in the mirror and we’re happier than yesterday…? At least we’d be happy for you!” Or “Imagine how great it’d feel to get just one page of your novel done today… you should do it!”

Now, if you’ve ever been peer pressured into anything then you know how powerful this can be. But at least this way, it’s because you’re the one who’s in control. And you’d also the one getting the benefits from it.

3. Dish Out The Punishment

It’s pretty nice to be rewarded for getting a task done. But comparatively, it’s a HUGE relief to avoid misfortune for completing tasks as well.

And that’s where this tip comes in.

Interesting fact – Daniel Kahneman (human motivation expert and author of “Thinking, Fast and Slow) conducted many psychological experiments on humans and motivation. And the key takeaway he got from these trials was that humans are about twice as likely to work to avoid a loss… than they are to get a reward.

In other words, people are more punishment-oriented than they are reward-focused.

So rather than thinking about the great things you’ve got lined up after completing your work… try the opposite method instead. Think about small ways you could punish yourself for a job left incomplete. It should be bad enough to incite some degree of anxiety without crippling your motivation.

A few examples:

  • If you skip a workout, you’ve got to eat a small (but dry) salad (no dressing allowed!)
  • If you hop on your smartphone instead of working on a fulfilling hobby, you’ve got to lock your phone down for an hour
  • If you don’t get up on time, then tell your spouse or kids to spray you down with a spray bottle filled with water till you get up

It’s easy to get creative here, and you’d know best what works for you.

But the point is, if doing the task feels FAR better than the consequences of ignoring it… then you’re on the right path. And your instant motivation has been found.

If a Motivation Tactic Works, Don’t Knock It

You might be worried about giving these methods a try. But I can personally testify to their effectiveness. And that should carry some weight considering what 14 years in the self-improvement game will expose you to.

And if you’ve tried out other mainstream motivation methods, but aren’t satisfied with the results they’ve given you (which would put you in the same boat as me), then I doubly suggest you give these motivation tips a shot – you might be surprised at the results.

Till next time,

Halfway There

Leaders in any profession need to make sure that team morale is at an optimum level, and there is no institution in dire need of a constant morale boost other than the military because trainings and drills can get monotonous after a certain period of time.

Military leaders need to keep their squads motivated 24/7 and ready for any and all situations. The military has always relied on insignias and emblems in maintaining that esprit-de-corps within their squads. Hence, morale patches originate from the military and have played an integral part in uplifting the morale of military personnel.

Fun Fact: Did you know that John J. Pershing, a senior US army military commander, was one of the pioneers involved in creating morale patches for his units? Without him, the idea of morale-boosting, sports, military, or scouts patches might not have existed today.

Alright, let’s get back to these motivating morale boosting quotes.

We’ve been keeping track of the very best and most popular motivational blogs since 2017. And without fail, we’ve updated this list every year since.

Some of the blogs listed have an inspirational and self-improvement focus, but the common thread among them all is their ability to motivate you to be, do, and have more.  A handful of the motivational blogs listed are quite mainstream, so you may already be aware of them.

However, there are others that are up-and-coming sites that provide immense value, and are highly motivational as well.

“People Often Say That Motivation Doesn’t Last. Well, Neither Does Bathing – That’s Why We Recommend It Daily.”

– Zig Ziglar –

What is Motivation?

Before we get into the rankings, let’s briefly discuss what motivation is.  Why?  Because clarity leads to awareness, awareness leads to better decisions, and better decisions leads to better results.

One of our favorite definitions of motivation, is simply, “Motivation is the driving force by which humans achieve their goals.” We like it because it sums up why we all want to be motivated.  We all want to achieve something.

Success Motivation Defined

Another great definition of motivation is “Motivation as the state or condition of being motivated or having a strong reason to act or accomplish something.”

Both definitions speak to the fact that most people want to be motivated to achieve.  They both demonstrate that we all wish accomplish those things we’ve made up their minds to do, and know that feeling motivated plays a big part in how much success we find.

How to Use This Resource

To get the most out of this resource, bookmark it.  This way, when, not if, you start to run low on motivation, you’ll have a reliable resource you can easily come back to when you need to find more resources to help you stay motivated.

In a way, you can consider using this page as type of motivational refueling (or recharging) station.  If you start to run low of motivation, just come on back and pick one of the 100 listed motivational sites to help you refuel your empty tank or recharge.

“Without Ambition One Starts Nothing. Without Work One Finishes Nothing. The Prize Will Not Be Sent To You. You Have To Win It.”

–  Ralph Waldo Emerson –

Use this motivational resource and stay fired up to win it.

The Ranking

In the past the ranking used for these motivational blogs was acquired by using Alexa rankings; however, Alexa was unplugged a couple years ago. As such we’ve employed a different ranking methodology for this year’s list. The rankings below have been determined by the popularity of each site. We’ve compiled an estimated monthly search volume for each site listed using the combined services of Ahrefs, SEMRush, and UberSuggest.

Now, we know traffic doesn’t necessarily convey how “motivational” a blog or site is, but it does demonstrate a level of value that the market and search engines have placed on them, which is why we’ve chosen to use monthly traffic as a ranking factor.

With that being said, the rankings on this resource page may change over the course of the year, as traffic volumes for sites change seasonally.  Also, some of the motivational sites listed may be ranked lower than you’d expect based off your own experience with the brand, but that’s because the site’s listed below do not account for a blogs/brands YouTube traffic and audience.

At the moment, this is the most comprehensive list of motivational blogs on the internet for 2025. So, check each of them out, and allow them to keep you fired up to unleash your potential daily.
