5 REASONS YOU FEEL STUCK AND WHAT YOU CAN DO TO GET UNSTUCK

Published

on

How to Get Unstuck

For years, I felt stuck. If you observed my life from the outside, you would have probably been surprised by this. I had a great life: a good job that paid me well and provided me with good benefits, a nice house in a lovely neighborhood, a happy marriage. But I was unfulfilled and restless. And, I felt guilty for not being totally excited about the life I had because I knew I was lucky.

At the time, I felt frustrated and alone in my discontent. Now, years later, I’ve heard the same story from countless people. If you feel stuck, you’re in good company, but you don’t need to stay there! To follow are five of the most common reasons people feel stuck and what you can do to get unstuck:

1.  You’re Living on Auto-Pilot

Have you been doing the same job/routine so long that you can do it hardly using any brainpower? You’re in the comfort zone. Unfortunately, the comfort zone is only comfy for a little bit—then, it turns into a rut. The comfort zone is all about being easy and familiar. There are no challenges there. We need to be challenged to grow. And, as the saying goes, “Variety is the spice of life.” If you’ve been living the same day over and over again, you’re probably pretty bored by now.

What You Can Do:

Add challenges to your life. Set a goal. These don’t have to be huge goals that make you stressed out. Think about how you can take something you’re doing now to the next level. If you’ve been running a mile or two a few days a week, set a goal to run a 5K or 5-mile race. Having something to train for is great for focus and motivation. If you need more challenge at work, talk to your boss. See if you can be put in charge of someone or something new.

Add variety to your life. We wind up going to the same restaurants, shopping at the same stores, watching the same shows over and over. Mix it up! Try new places. Make plans with new people. Read books. Listen to podcasts. Learn new things. Sign up for a class.

2.  You’re Taking Care of Other People But Not Taking Care of Yourself

Do you spend your days as your family’s taxi driver, personal chef, maid, and personal assistant?

What about your needs? Do you leave time to do things for yourself? Do you exercise? Meditate? Make plans with friends? Are you up to date on your doctors’ visits? Do you take time to go for a walk, read a book? If you’re laughing and thinking, “Yeah, right—when would I ever have time to do any of that?!” Then you need to re-work your priorities and your schedule. Seriously. If you’re not already at the point where you feel exhausted and unhealthy, you’ll likely be feeling that way soon.

What You Can Do:

Block off time on your schedule to do things for yourself—things that you enjoy and things that improve your well-being. Treat these blocked off times like commitments that you make to other people. We’re usually very good about doing things we promised to other people but bad about keeping our word to ourselves. Think about it: if you tell your friend/family member that you will do something, do you do it? I bet you almost always do.

But, how do you treat promises you make to yourself? If you tell yourself that you’re going to stick to a diet, commit to working out a certain number of days each week, clean out your closet, start looking for a new job, do you actually do it? Or, when the time comes, do you tell yourself it’s not that important—you don’t really need to do it, or, you can do it later. Honor the commitments you make to yourself and you’ll not only start getting more things done, but you’ll also gain self-respect and pride about what you’re doing.

3. You’re Living Your Life Based on Other People’s Standards

Did you become a doctor, lawyer, banker, teacher, stay-at-home mom because that’s what your parents encouraged you to do? Did you buy a house in the suburbs, have a baby, sign up for the PTA because that’s what your friends were doing? Do you see other people on social media and feel like you need to “keep up” with their achievements, vacations, possessions, fashions?

You can be the richest, thinnest, most glamorous person in the world and still not be happy. You can be the most successful person in your industry, live in a beautiful mansion, have servants who take care of everything for you, and still go to bed dreading the next day. No matter how much value other people put on them, if those things aren’t important to you, you won’t feel fulfilled. Maybe what you really want to do is join the Peace Corps and help people in under-developed countries. You don’t care about having material things or how you look. Maybe you don’t want the high-powered job you have. Because, even though you are respected, paid extremely well, and people envy you, you don’t enjoy your job, you work long hours, and you feel stressed & exhausted most of the time. You’d rather take a big pay-cut, do something that excites you, and have more time to spend with your family.

What You Can Do:

Identify your core values. What’s most important to YOU? Family? Security? Integrity? Generosity? Fun? Growth? Significance? Equality? Flexibility? Brainstorm. Pick your top five and prioritize them. Determine how the life you’re living is out of alignment with those values. If family and integrity are among your top core values and your job has you selling a product you don’t believe in and traveling three weeks a month, you can see how this poses a conflict. Next, brainstorm how you can live more in-line with your core values.

4.  You’re Self-Sabotaging

Do you have a dream to find a new job, write a book, start your own business, move across the country, become a motivational speaker, sell your possessions and go build schools in Africa?

Does the voice in your head tell you that you’ll never get another job, no one will buy your product, you’re irresponsible, you’re too old to make a big change, you won’t be able to do whatever it is you’re dreaming of?

These negative voices come from the part of your mind that just wants to protect you—that’s its job. It doesn’t want you to take any risks, no matter how great the potential. It wants you to stay in your comfort zone, peaceful and safe, regardless of how restless you may feel. It will go to great lengths to keep you safe.

This primitive part of the brain will tell you to hit the snooze button when the alarm goes off early for you to go to the gym before work. It will tell you that an extra hour of sleep is more important than getting on the treadmill.

Right after you set an appointment to make a sales pitch to a new, big client, it will remind you of the time you got up in front of your class to give a book report and you forgot what you were saying and the whole class laughed at you. It will tell you that you aren’t good at public speaking.

It will convince you that people won’t want your services. It will make you believe that it’s too expensive and there are too many other people already doing the same thing. It would rather you stay where you are than risk any suffering or failure, so it will persuade you that you’re better off not even trying.

What You Can Do:

Notice when you hear the negative voices. Remind yourself that they are just trying to protect you. Know that if you listen to them, you won’t: grow, achieve great things, be proud of yourself, live to your fullest potential, be able to look back without regrets about things you should have done.

Ask yourself, “What’s the worst thing that can happen if you go for it?” Ironically, very often, the worst thing that can happen is that you wind up exactly where you are now! If you apply for a job and don’t get it, well… you already don’t have it. If you make an offer and no one buys it, then you have the same amount of sales you already had. So, what are you afraid of? You’re already dealing with your worst-case scenario!

5.  You’re Stuck in Indecision

Do you want to make a change, but aren’t sure what that change should be? If you’re unclear about what you want, you’ll have trouble making decisions. You may feel like there are too many options and you’re not sure which one is the best. So, you wallow in indecision, not doing anything. Or, you waste time doing things that aren’t best serving you.

But, if you were clear about your goals, you’d have an easier time making a decision. You’d be able to weigh your options against each other to see which one would move you closer to reaching your goals.

Do you know what change you want to make, but aren’t sure what your next steps should be? This indecision is usually an excuse to keep you from having to take action.

I know what you’re thinking, “No, really—I want to move forward, but I really can’t decide what I should do!” Well, what if you had to decide? What would you do?

This also goes back to that fear we have that keeps us from taking action. Our brain thinks that if we stay in indecision, it will keep us from doing something that might cause us to fail/suffer. But, as we know, what it’s really doing is making us suffer right now.

What You Can Do:

Get clear about your priorities and your goals. Where do you want to be in 5 years? What steps do you need to take to make that a reality? What do you need to start doing? What do you need to stop doing?

As opportunities arise, use that clarity to help you make decisions. Let’s say your #1 priority is to get a new job. You hear about a networking event but it conflicts with dinner plans you made with a friend. It’s in your best interest to either reschedule your dinner plans for another night, have any early dinner and then attend the event, or ask your friend to come to the event with you.

Compare your schedule to your priorities. If your top priorities are your family and your health, and you’re working 12 hours a day and you’re eating fast-food at your desk, you’re not living in-line with your priorities. It’s time to make some adjustments.

Make a decision about what to do next. Just pick something and start doing it. Either it will work and you can just continue doing what you’re doing, or it won’t work and then you can cross that off your list and try something else. If you don’t do anything, you won’t know what works.

Final Words on How to Get Unstuck

Don’t waste any more time feeling stuck and frustrated. Pick one thing to start doing. Taking action will get you moving out of your rut and make you feel better. You have the potential to do great things and truly love your life. Get started now!

How to Change Your Life

So you want to change your life?

I don’t know how you ended up on this website, reading these words, but I do know you are looking for something.

Maybe your back is against the wall, and you decided to google “How to change your life”?

Maybe you are stuck, maybe you tried to change your life, but things got hard, so you quit.

Maybe you are stuck in limbo, you are doing ok, but you can’t seem to get that breakthrough that you are looking for.

The reality of changing your life is that it’s easier said than done. Is it possible to change your life? Yes, it’s possible to embrace self-improvement and totally transform your life.

However, many people fail to change their lives in a meaningful way. But why do they fail? More importantly, how can we avoid failure and get the life we want?

Today I’m going to answer those questions. Let’s take a look at how you can start changing your life today:

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE TODAY, AND FOR GOOD

How to Change Your Life Today

1. Stop Being A Dabbler

What is a dabbler? Two dictionary definitions say the following:

“A person who follows a pursuit without attaining proficiency or professional status”

“One not deeply engaged in or concerned with something.”

These are formal definitions of what a dabbler is, but let’s look at a more simple explanation of what dabbling with life means in terms of you changing your life.

To do this, let’s look at an analogy. Let’s imagine for a minute that the game of life is a river. A very cold river, and to play the game of life requires you to get in the water and swim.

But what do most people do when they try to change their lives? They walk up to the river of life and put their foot in the water to feel how cold it is.

They soon realize the water is freezing and that stream is quite strong. So they take out their foot and go back to their warm homes. Then they can tell everyone that they tried, but it didn’t work out.

But let me tell you the reality of the game of life. The people that win don’t dabble. They go all in. They do not do half-measures. They jump into the cold icy water and immerse themselves. They calm themselves, breathe, and start swimming to the other side. They are committed to doing whatever it takes to reach their goals and live the life of their dreams.

You have to commit and stop dabbling. This is the only way to change your life.

2. Find Specialized Knowledge

There is an old saying, “Standing on the shoulders of giants.”This is exactly what you need to do to go to the next level in life.

You need to realize that you don’t need to reinvent everything. You can listen and learn from the greatest minds that ever walked this planet. You can also find specialized knowledge in whatever field you work in to speed up your growth and development.

We are very fortunate to have knowledge and experience at our fingertips. The internet made it possible for us to find knowledge like this website you are reading now, with a simple google search. Suddenly you are exposed to powerful ideas that have the potential to plant seeds in your mind that can transform your life.

So don’t try to go it alone, you must invest in yourself by reading blogs, books, online courses, etc. To be competitive in this modern world you need to take your self-education very seriously. Socrates was right when he said, “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”

3. Use Your Past Pain

Don’t ever forget that your greatest success will be found in your greatest pain, disappointments, and heartbreaks. This might sound crazy to many but it’s the truth.

Go look at some of the greatest people that ever walked this planet and most of them would say that the thing that sparked it all for them was some kind of pain or trauma from their past.

How to change your life for good

Your past should not be something you are obsessed about, but if it’s channeled correctly, it has the power to drive you to excel in whatever field you choose to go into.

The most powerful forces in the human mind are pain and pleasure. Advertisers know this very well. So don’t totally push down your past.

Find something that you can look at from your past and allow it to fuel you. Allow it to drive you to work when others are sleeping. Let it give you the hunger to do work when others are partying. Become that guy or girl that leads the way, by channeling that energy so that it transforms your life.

4. Do The Work When No One Is Watching

Most people who try to change their lives fail because they run out of steam when their initial motivation fades. Because here is the reality: When you start your mission to change your life, you will get very excited. Maybe you read a book, watched a movie, or found some other motivation. So you got so excited that you went out there and told the world that you will change.

So you take that excitement, and you start your first day, and then the first week goes by. But soon, that excitement starts to fade, and you feel the initial motivation disappearing like a ghost at night.

So here is the question that you must ask yourself because I promise you it will happen to you: What are you going to do when the lights go off and it’s just you? When everyone’s out partying and having a great time, and you are alone working. What are you going to do? Are you going to call it a day because you feel lonely or uncomfortable?

The people that overcome this reality know that this initial excitement will fade when the reality of hard work confronts them, they are ready for it.

How do they overcome it? Well, they all have the tools that they can get. They make vision boards so that their vision is constantly in their minds. They create morning rituals to give them momentum into the day. They write down their goals every morning and evening. They do all these things to constantly remind themselves why they do what they do. They do all of this, and they find ways to develop their mental fortitude so that they keep moving forward when the going gets tough.

The human mind has the potential to be an incredible soldier for you if you train it correctly and use self- discipline to control it. But if you allow your mind to aimlessly drift when you are supposed to be doing the work then you will fail.

5. Who Dares Wins

You have probably heard the words “Who Dares Wins.” These famous words are the motto of the British Special Air Service or SAS. The SAS is the United Kingdom’s Elite Special Operations Unit. The first time I heard their motto, “Who Dares Wins,” I realized these guys are sharing with us the truth of winning in life.

This truth is a reality that many miss or refuse to accept. The reality is this: If you want to change your life or reach your goals, then you must be willing to step out of your comfort zone and take calculated risks.

I’m not saying you should do reckless or stupid things, I’m saying you should step into areas of life that make you uncomfortable. This is the only way to get what you want.

It was Einstein who once said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Einstein was 100% correct with these words, you can’t expect to change your life if you keep on doing the exact same things over and over.

Step out of your comfort zone and remember, “Who dares wins.”

6. Become A Professional

There is one final piece to this puzzle of changing your life, and it’s the following non-negotiable reality:

You must become a professional. What do I mean by being a professional? It means you must change all aspects of how you conduct yourself. You must reject mediocrity and embrace excellence.

change your life with a commitment to excellence

If you want to make your dreams a reality, then you must transform who you are at the deepest level. That means raising your standards in everything you do. That is the core of being a professional.

At a more practical level, a professional conducts himself at a very high standard. A professional lives a disciplined life. He or she has their days, weeks, and months planned out. They don’t wake up and ask themselves, “What am I doing today?”. No, this is not how a professional operates.

If you want to know how a professional conducts himself look at some of the greatest sports professionals that walked the earth. Look at Michael Jordan, Kobe, and Tom Brady. Those guys weren’t just competitive on the field but also off it.

When they weren’t playing or practicing, they would study other sports to get better with their own game. They would do everything they could to get an edge on their opponents. When others would sleep, they would be grinding, when others were partying, they found new ways to win. This might sound extreme, but this is what it takes to become great. This is what it takes to transform your life.

So how do you start this process of becoming a professional in the game of life? Most of you reading might be expecting a very complicated answer, but it’s not. It’s very simple but massively important:

You must realize that with every decision you make, you are competing. The decisions you make will shape your destiny. It’s the small daily actions that you take or don’t take that will make the biggest difference long-term.

Let’s look at some examples of daily choices that can make or break your success in life:

  • Should I go to that party tonight?
  • Should I eat this pizza?
  • Should I sleep for another hour?
  • Should I go for a run?
  • Should I drink a few beers tonight?
  • Should I make a few sales calls today?
  • Should I write that essay?
  • Should I take this weekend off?
  • Should I take a break today?

These are the types of questions that seem like just normal everyday questions that run through your mind. But the reality is that these small daily, seemingly unimportant choices are shaping who you become.

Self-Discipline + Excellence

Remember, the actions you consistently take shape your future and the person you will become. And this brings us back to being professional. A professional consistently makes the right choices over a long period of time.

Sure, they make mistakes, but the majority of the time, they get guided by their iron self-discipline. This self-discipline is a culture of excellence in their lives. This culture gets built by being conscious of doing the small things right and consistently holding yourself to a higher standard than anyone could possibly expect.

A professional is the type of person who, when things are bad,and everyone would understand if he didnt show up, he still shows up and does whatever needs to be done. This is the mindset of being a real professional in life.

If you can mold yourself into becoming a professional, you will change your life. The transformation is inevitable because there is a very powerful force that controls this world, and it’s called cause and effect.

Once you embrace cause and effect, it becomes very hard to stop you. Once you become the cause of your world, the effect will become inevitable.

Now you need to ask yourself: What are you going to do? Are you going to accept mediocrity or step into excellence? Your choice!

Conclusion

You now know how to change your life. All you have to do is follow these guidelines. Remember, changing your life is a process that will take time to accomplish, but the decision to put this process in motion can happen in a second.

So, make a decision, take out a notebook, and write down what it is you want to do with your life. Then get up and start taking action on that first thing. It’s that simple. Start today!

HOW TO BUILD MENTAL TOUGHNESS AND STRENGTH

Published

How to Build Mental Toughness

There is no doubt that any level of success requires mental toughness. Success doesn’t just happen, it requires specific and consistently repeated actions over time to create the results you want.

But taking those actions and getting those results is easier said than done. This is where mental toughness comes into the game.

The lack of mental toughness is what stops many people in their tracks. Many people have big dreams and goals, but somewhere along the path, things get hard, and most give up.

This is the reason why so many people who start the climb to success fail. They get all excited and get motivated to achieve their dreams, but then they get stopped in their tracks.

The reality that many don’t realize is that talking is easy, but doing the work is not.

What most don’t realize is that at some stage, your initial motivation will fade, and the people around you will disappear. Then it’s just you.

But what will you do when no one is watching? What will you do when you are struggling, and things get hard? Will you stop? Will you give up?

I don’t care how motivated you are, but at some point in your journey, you will get to a point where you will ask yourself the following questions:

Is this worth it?

What if this doesn’t work?

Maybe I should give up?

This is the fork in the road. At this point, the losers will stop and give up. The winners will push forward and go on to win.

But why do most quit? And how do the winners keep going and win? Well, this is where mental toughness comes into the game.

This article will answer why successful people win and how they use their minds to overcome whatever is in front of them. In other words, how do they build their mental toughness?

What Is Mental Toughness?

Mental toughness is the psychological ability that enables individuals, generally, to cope better than most people with the many demands that life throws at them.

They developed the ability to be more consistent and better than most people in remaining focused, confident, determined, and in control under pressure.

It’s not that these people are superhuman, it’s that they developed the ability to recognize the hardships of the situations they find themselves in but are still able to move forward no matter how bad things get.

HOW TO BUILD MENTAL TOUGHNESS

How to Build Mental Toughness

If you are reading this article, then I assume you are someone that has goals and dreams that you are determined to achieve. Therefore you know that it’s non-negotiable to have a high level of self-discipline as a lifestyle to achieve big goals.

But besides self-discipline, we need mental toughness. But you can’t just tell someone, “Build mental toughness.” You need methods that will help you build a foundation and get you moving in the right direction with momentum.

Over the years, I have studied high-level achievers in sports and elite military units and identified the key methods that help them to overcome and achieve on a consistently high level.

Today I’m going to share with you three powerful ways to start building mental toughness. Here they are:

1. Stop Negotiating With Yourself

The first way to start building mental resilience is to stop negotiating with yourself. We all have mental habits. The problem with mental habits is that most of the time we don’t know we have them.

They are certain thought patterns that we repeat without realizing it. For example, every time you think of exercise, you find a reason why it’s a better idea to postpone it. You tell yourself, “Let’s do it tomorrow.”

How to Build Mental Strength Quote - Horace

In other words, you start negotiating with yourself. Every human being has two parts in his mind. Think of them as the good guy and the bad guy. Or, if you want to look at it more scientifically, the old part and the new part of the human brain are always in conflict with each other.

The ancient part of the human brain, also known as the “reptilian brain”, and the newer part of your brain, also known as the logical brain, have different agendas.

The logical brain wants to achieve your goals. But every time the logical brain wants to take action, the old brain steps in and starts negotiating for something more comfortable.

The key here is to stop the negotiations immediately. Don’t even allow discussion. As soon as this “bad guy” comes up to negotiate, stop him in his tracks. This works because as soon as you realize what is happening, you can cut it off and get on with it.

The big mistake that most people make is that they think the “bad guy” is a legitimate voice that is making a legitimate argument. Now that you know what is actually happening, you can recognize it and stop it. No negotiation is allowed, just move on and start executing your goal.

2. Use The David Goggins Cookie Jar Method

One of the men that  I admire most in the world is Navy SEAL David Goggins. Goggins became world famous after the release of his book “Can’t Hurt Me.”

David Goggins is arguably the toughest man on the planet, but this wasn’t always the case. He was an overweight, mediocre underachiever that turned himself into one of the most elite athletes on the planet.

How to Build Mental Toughness Quote - Goggins

One of the biggest lessons I learned from him is his Cookie Jar Method. Goggins often talks about the Cookie Jar method and how he uses it. The Cookie Jar is basically a virtual cookie jar that he goes into when his back is against the wall.

The Cookie Jar is filled with notes from a wide range of events from his past. Every note has a memory from the past. These events are things that happened to him and that he managed to overcome.

A lot of these events are painful, even though he managed to overcome them. So whenever he feels like quitting or giving up, he goes into the cookie jar and reads one of the notes.

For example, one note might read, “Remember when no one believed in you, but you still lost all the weight and went on to join the Navy Seals.”

The key to this method is to use your past pain and pleasure events to push you to overcome whatever is in front of you.

The mind is incredibly powerful if you use it effectively. This method allows us to use the pain and pleasure centers of our brains to overcome mental obstacles that are in our way.

Create your mental cookie jar. It doesn’t have to be big things, but find something to remind you of what you can do when obstacles get placed in your path. Use your  past pain or pleasure, and feed on it so that it fuels you to go on and win.

3. Use The Special Operations Mind Control Method

Another method that I learned from the elite special operations community is to minimize the mountain in front of you. To understand this method, you first need to understand the context of special operations units.

If you think about the Navy Seals,75th Ranger Regiment, Green Berets, or Marine Raiders, then you are talking about some of the hardest training in the world.

It’s not just hard, it takes a long time to accomplish. Depending on the unit you go to, it could take up to 2 years to complete all training. For those brave enough to join, a mental mountain awaits them. This is the reason why so many quit.

how to gain mental toughness

80% of SEAL candidates quit. Many of them reach mental obstacles early in training. For example, Navy SEAL “Hell Week” is five days with only 2 hours of sleep.

Within the first day of “Hell Week,” many quit because they find themselves on a mental wake-up call when they tell themselves, “This is only day one, and I already feel like I can’t go on. How am I going to make the next five days? How Am I going to make it in the next five months?”

This is an example of mental obstacles  that makes most men quit. But it’s not just in the military where we find these mental blocks.

Maybe you started a business, and within the first five months, you realize things are a lot harder than you thought they would be, so you tell yourself, “I don’t know if I can do this for another year.” So you quit.

So how do we overcome these types of mental blocks? How do we overcome these mental mountains? To answer this question, let’s go back to the Special Operations Units and their training. We mentioned the mental mountains in front of them and how it stops them.

Well, I recently listened to several Navy Seals, and Green Berets  talk on a podcast about how they overcome these mental mountains. What they do is simple, they don’t allow themselves to focus on the mountain in front of them. They break it down into small achievable goals.

The Navy Seal on the podcast said that when he was going through Hell Week, he would often start thinking about quitting, but every time he did, he would tell himself something like the following:

“The sun is rising now, I’m going to make it to lunch and if I want to quit, I can do it at lunch.”

And then he would make it to lunch, and then he would tell himself the following:

“Ok, I feel like quitting, but I’m going to go until dinner and see how I feel then.”

Then when he reached dinner, he would tell himself he would make it until breakfast. He would keep repeating this until the end of the week. He would keep setting small achievable goals for himself to trick his mind to keep moving forward.

The key lesson is to not let yourself get overwhelmed by the big goals that you set for yourself. You need to train your mind to hold your big vision for yourself in the background and place your small achievable goals fresh in your mind.

Don’t get obsessed with the massive task ahead of you. Just focus on your small goals and start executing each and every one of them. That is how you win.

Final Thoughts

Most of the people that achieve great things are not naturally born superheroes. They just learned how to use their minds in such an effective way that it’s very hard for them to fail.

Mental toughness comes down to using proven methods to condition your mind to move in the direction that you want it to move.

Does this mean achieving your goals will be easy? No, but if you consistently do the work and use these methods, you will condition your mind to never give up and always be moving forward. You will put yourself in a position where you consistently achieve your goals and inevitably win.

Till you reach those aims,

A MORNING SUCCESS ROUTINE TO PRIME YOUR BRAIN FOR DAILY ACHIEVEMENT

Published

on

We’ve all seen articles about how billionaires like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett follow a very strict and rigid morning routine… but why is this? What is it about a morning success routine that seems to prime people for higher achievement?

The truth is that morning routines are an integral part of every successful person’s life, and without one, it’s very hard to achieve high levels of success. Before I had a morning routine, I was depressed, unmotivated, and out of shape…

…but now? I’ve successfully built an online business that generates over $15,000/month, I’m a jacked fitness model, at 8% bodyfat, and most importantly… I am happier than ever.

What’s my secret? Read on and you’ll find out.

The #1 Secret to Success: Your Subconscious Mind

First things first. A big part of self-development is realizing the role your unconscious mind plays in your life, because believe me, it’s a lot more than you think.

According to some psychologists, your unconscious mind determines about 90% of your behavior. Some say more, some say less – but either way, everyone agrees that your subconscious mind determines your fate, more than you realize.

This is the beauty of a morning routine. According to science, your subconscious mind is most malleable during the last 30 minutes before you go to bed, and the first 30 minutes after you wake up. This is why a morning routine is so important.

Your brain isn’t binary – it doesn’t have an “on/off” switch, for sleeping and waking. Throughout the day, you will experience multiple “brain frequencies,” each of which plays an important role.

Your brain has multiple frequencies, such as:

  • Alpha
  • Beta
  • Delta
  • Theta

Each of these brain frequencies plays an important role in brain functioning. The alpha frequencies are typically the most sought-after, because they’re known for creating a calm, yet focused and motivated state.

Beta frequencies arise when you are experiencing anxiety, although they can be important if you’re facing a present and immediate threat.

You experience delta frequencies when you’re sound asleep.  The real magic however, happens when you’re in the “theta frequency,” which operates as a sort of intermediary between waking and sleeping modes.

During this theta frequency, your subconscious mind is most malleable and open to new suggestions. This is why a morning routine can leave such an impact – it literally reprograms your unconscious mind for success, when it’s the most open to being reprogrammed.

Why A Morning Routine Matters

This is why a morning routine is so critical. Most people check their phones first thing in the morning, which trains their brains to be “outcome dependent.” This is one of the worst things you could ever do, let alone first thing in the morning.

When you check your phone first thing in the morning, and go on social media, you’re training your brain to look for external validation – likes, comments, and such.

This is 100% counterproductive to success, because success requires focus on a bigger picture, and it requires that you be internally motivated, rather than motivated by external (and fake) things such as social media attention.

When you design a proper morning routine, it accomplishes three primary things:

  • It Sets Internal Goals For You
  • It Improves Focus & Clarity
  • It Starts Your Day With Momentum

All three of these things are extremely important if you wish to become a successful individual in the world. Without goals, focus, and momentum, it will be difficult to accomplish much.

When you design a good morning routine, and stick to it for a long period of time, it slowly re-programs your unconscious mind to expect, and focus on success.

BEST MORNING SUCCESS ROUTINE

best morning success routine

With this in mind, let’s talk about some of the things that makes a great morning routine, and how it can benefit you in your own life.

There’s a ton of different morning routines out there, and to be honest, there’s no one morning routine that is for everyone. That being said however, there’s a few key activities and habits that you may want to consider putting into your morning routine.

1. Meditation

Numerous studies have repeatedly demonstrated the immediate and long-lasting benefits of meditation. Take for example, a recent study conducted by researchers at the Harvard Division of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Biotechnology.

In this study, researchers found that meditation had a plethora of positive medical benefits, relating to mood, heart health, and gene expression:

“Transcriptome analysis in peripheral blood mononuclear cells identified 1771 genes regulated by the RR in responders. Biological process- and pathway-based analysis of transcriptome data demonstrated enrichment in the following gene categories: immune regulatory pathways and metabolism (among downregulated genes); glucose metabolism, cardiovascular system development, and circadian rhythm (among upregulated genes).”

In the past decade, researchers have continually found that meditation yields incredible benefits, and this is why I believe it’s so important to integrate it into your morning routine.

When you set aside just 5-10 minutes to meditate, you prime your brain to be present, focused, and most importantly, non-reactive.

2. Gratitude Journaling

I’ve been using a gratitude journal for years now as a part of my morning routine, and the results I’ve seen have been absolutely incredible.

When you take just a few minutes out each day to focus on the things you’re grateful for, it can leave a long-lasting and profound impact on your life. Take, for example, a recent paper published by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley.

By analyzing numerous studies and conducting their own research, they found that gratitude has a host of benefits, ranging from better interpersonal relations to better physical health.

One great way to do this, is to purchase one of the many gratitude journals available online. They come with pre-prepared templates, so that you can follow the simple question prompts, and focus on what matters most in your life.

For me, I’ve found that writing down three things I’m grateful for each morning has a big impact. When you’re focused on success, it can be easy to think about how far away you are from your bigger goals.

This is why focusing on what you already have, and feeling grateful for it, can be so helpful. It brings your mind back to center, and allows you to fully internalize all of the incredible things you’ve accomplished thus far, and have been given by the world.

3. Setting Goals

Another great thing that many successful individuals do each morning is to set goals. When you write down three things you want to accomplish each day, you tell your subconscious mind that you want to focus on these things.

Then, as you go through the day, your subconscious mind will constantly be looking for ways to accomplish these things. It minimizes the conscious effort you have to put in, because all the while, your subconscious mind is looking for the solutions.

I prefer to write down three high impact goals each morning. Some people prefer to type them out, or just think of them, but I’ve found that writing down your goals is best.

You want to focus on high impact goals, rather than low impact goals. For more information on this, I suggest you read the book “Focal Point” by Brian Tracy. The idea is that most humans focus on goals that don’t really matter – things like getting groceries, or playing video games.

…but when you focus on the 1% of things that truly matter, such as starting that business, upgrading your living conditions, or reaching out to a key networking contact, you’ll find that you can get twice as much done, in literally half the time.

4. Physical Activity

Many individuals also prefer to do some sort of physical activity first thing in the morning. This helps get your blood flowing, and starts the day off right.

You can do a number of different forms of physical activity in your morning routine, such as:

  • Bio-Energetic Warm-Ups
  • Stretching
  • Light Jogging

I find that jumping right into intensive physical activity first thing in the morning isn’t right for me, but some people love doing pushups or other calisthenics first thing in the morning.

I’ve been a professional fitness model, and I’ve sold thousands of eBooks in the fitness niche, and I’ve found that some light stretching and moving around works best for me. Take that for what it’s worth, and always try things out for yourself, to see what works best for you.

Designing The Perfect Morning Success Routine

With this in mind, let’s take a minute to design the perfect morning routine for you. What works for others might not necessarily work for you, but starting with a simple template is a great way to start building the habit of having a morning routine.

Here is the morning routine I do each day, that’s helped me grow my life in ways I thought absolutely impossible just a few short years ago:

  1. Wake Up (Using Bio-Compatible Technology)
  2. Gratitude Journaling
  3. Writing Down Tasks, Goals, and Dreams
  4. Meditating
  5. Visualizing

Funny enough, I don’t have much physical activity first thing in the morning. This is because I already spend a lot of my time working out, stretching, and jogging. If you aren’t a professional fitness expert, I suggest you add some light stretching or walking into here.

With that in mind however, let’s discuss each one of these habits in detail.

Wake Up The Right Way

First off, I always strive to get 9 hours of sleep each night. Studies have shown that your brain operates in “sleep cycles” of 90 minutes. In other words, your brain goes through different phases, from light sleep, to dreaming, to REM sleep.

One full cycle lasts about 90 minutes, and if you wake up in the middle of a cycle, you will feel groggy, as your brain didn’t complete a full cycle. This is why sleeping in intervals of 90 minutes works best for us human beings, and it’s why I believe that 9 hours is ideal.

Each morning, I wake up using a natural sunlight simulating alarm clock. You can find many of these online for under $30, and it’s a great investment.

You set the time you want to wake up (say 8am), and it slowly starts simulating the sunrise for 30 minutes before this, to signal your body it’s time to wake up.

From here, I use a lightbox, which has long been known to help with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). This simulates the sun, and you can get plenty of them for relatively cheap online as well.

This signals to your body that it’s time to wake up, and get the day started.

Gratitude Journaling

From here, I go into my office, and begin my journaling process. For my journal, I write down three things that I’m grateful for, and really focus on feeling grateful about them.

It doesn’t matter what you write down, but what matters is that you feel grateful for them. It could be something as simple as: “I’m grateful to be alive,” or it could be something more specific, such as a recent serendipitous turn of events.

Focusing on these three things that you’re grateful for puts you in a resourceful state of mind, so rather than feeling upset about your life, you’re calm and happy.

Writing Down Tasks, Goals, and Dreams

From here, I write down three tasks I want to accomplish each day. Like I said, I always focus on the highest ROI activities – ones which a small effort will bring about a big result.

Steve Jobs once said the following:

“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.”

Success is saying “yes” to the few things that are great, and “no” to the other million things that might sound nice, but that will ultimately distract you in your bigger goals.

From here, I write down my goals. These are bigger picture goals, that are typically either for the month or for the year. Writing them down each day ensures that I’m focused on them.

When writing down my goals, I write down the specific goal, when I want to accomplish it by, and how many days I have left. This is part of the SMART goal framework, which I suggest you look into.

Lastly, I write down my dreams. These are things that I don’t necessarily have a plan for, but that I want to have some day. It can range from expensive, fancy cars, to having a certain relationship with someone, to who I want to be in ten years.

This gets your unconscious mind focused on the things you want, so it will slowly start to bring these things about in your life.

Meditating

Each day, I spend at least a few minutes meditating, first thing in the morning. Like we said before, meditation has a whole plethora of incredible benefits, so I always make time for it.

To start, simply sit upright, straight, and focus on your breathing. Thoughts will pass into your brain, but the goal is to simply ignore them. Don’t get “attached” to them, by over analyzing them, or thinking about them.

Just accept the thoughts for what they are, and let them pass by your brain, as if you’re watching clouds pass by in the sky.

This trains your “focus” muscle, to stay present, and focused on what is right in front of you, rather than getting lost in endless thoughts and “what if” scenarios.

Visualizing

Visualizing your ideal life is something that I recommend everyone does. As we have established, your unconscious mind is always working for you, 24/7, whether you like it or not.

So, when you take some time to use visualization for success or creating your ideal life, and really, truly feel the emotions you will feel once you get there, it trains your unconscious mind to focus on this.

When you visualize, the key is to really FEEL the emotions you want to feel. Don’t just think about earning a certain amount of money, or having a certain type of relationship. Really focus on how it will make you FEEL, because feelings are the language of the unconscious mind.

For example, if you want to look absolutely jacked, visualize your before and after transformation. Imagine how great you’ll feel, when you’re taking your shirt off at the beach, and peoples’ heads are turning. It sounds strange, but it really works.

If you take the time to do this, you will find yourself naturally achieving your dreams and goals, without too much conscious effort. This is the power of your unconscious mind – it’s always driving you towards something, but you have to decide what it’s driving you towards.

Morning Routines For Success: The Bottom Line

In conclusion, having the right morning routine can either make or break you – so it’s very important that you master this habit.

Most people check their phones first thing in the morning, and engage in frivolous, unproductive activities, which end up sabotaging their success.

If you do decide to try a morning routine out, try it for at least 21 days. Science has shown us that this is the minimum amount of time it takes to build a habit.

You might not see results immediately – in fact, I can almost guarantee you won’t. You will notice more focus and happiness immediately, but it will take some time for the “tangible” results, such as making more money and having a better relationship, to show up.

Do not lose faith. I am 100% convinced that having a good morning routine, and sticking to it daily, will drastically improve your life… but don’t take my word for it. Try this morning success routine out for a month, and you can thank me later.

Till then,

GROWTH MINDSET VS. FIXED MINDSET

Growth Mindset Vs. Fixed Mindset

Ever wonder why some people succeed in life and some don’t? Ever wonder why people with almost similar backgrounds and starting points in life can end up on a completely different path? If so, we’re here to give you the answer, and the answer is about having a growth mindset vs. fixed mindset.

Of course, circumstances are the first thing most people blame, but have you ever wondered what impacts the way we react to our circumstances? Well, it all comes down to having the right mindset. This is the key, because in our reactions are within our power, and our reactions depend solely on our mindset. Our reactions are in our control.

People who use downsides as their advantages to learn and act upon are the ones with what has come to be known as a growth mindset. Having this mindset can literally change every single aspect of your life, and the purpose of this article is to show you how.

So, if you’re ready to learn about the differences between a growth mindset vs. a fixed mindset, and how favoring the forming can improve you life, let’s dive right in:

THE GROWTH MINDSET VS. FIXED MINDSET

Growth Mindset Versus Fixed Mindset

How Mindset Forms Our Life?

Two basic mindsets that form our life are growth and fixed mindset. You can also find them under the terms open and closed mindsets.

A growth or open mindset is about seeing failure as an opportunity to learn and improve, and about embracing challenges as a way to improve your skills.

Why is it so important to develop a growth mindset?

There are many benefits to having a growth mindset: increased happiness levels, better performance at work and school, higher self-esteem… the list goes on!

And who does not want that?

Having a fixed mindset you do not believe in change and: if you think you can’t change, then you won’t. If you believe in the idea of a fixed mindset, then you’ll never try to improve your abilities, because why would you when they’re already set in stone? But if you have a growth mindset, that means that you know that you can always get better—and that makes all the difference.

A growth mindset will:

  1. Push you further in life
  2. Help you develop resilience
  3. Ensure you have a bigger capacity for happiness
  4. Allow you to learn more because this will be your main focus
  5. Help you form more meaningful connections

How Do You Develop A Growth Mindset?

If you want to develop a growth mindset, start by challenging your beliefs about yourself and what you can achieve. If you have a fixed mindset, then every time you fail at something or are criticized for not being good enough at something, it reinforces those beliefs—you’ll see this as proof that there’s no point trying harder because you’ll never get better anyway.

But if you develop a growth mindset instead, then every time you try something difficult and fail or don’t succeed right away—or even if someone else tells you that they think your idea isn’t going to work—you take it as an opportunity to learn from them instead of letting their words define who you are.

  • Think about your goals for yourself and others. Don’t just think about what you want to achieve but also who you want to become as a person through achieving those goals.
  • Focus on effort rather than the outcome. When trying something new or learning something new, don’t just focus on the end result—focus on how much effort went into getting there instead. Even in setbacks, always look for something you can learn from them.
  • Be aware of your mistakes and failures and use them as opportunities to grow and learn even more than before!

How to start developing that growth mindset today, here are five simple steps:

  1. Remember that everyone has potential for growth.
  2. Practice being open-minded about things you don’t know yet (and maybe don’t want to learn).
  3. Think about what matters most to you, and focus on those things above all else!
  4. Stop seeking validation from other people. This is setting you up to seek approval instead of learning.
  5. If you do not know something that you wish to learn, practice saying: I do not know this, yet. The word “yet” here is crucial. It will set your brain up for learning.
Fixed MindsetGrowth Mindset
I cannot do thisI am still learning
I have failedI can improve
I should quitI can ask for help
I don’t know howI can learn how
I give upI’ll try another way
I made a mistakeI am learning

Growth Vs. Fixed Mindset Research

Psychologist Carol Dweck wrote a book on the topic titled, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.

Growth Vs. Fixed Mindset

Her research shows how much our approach to problems defines our quality of life. It affects our lives a lot more than talent or intellect.

Our mindset affects every area of our life. Our beliefs are conscious and unconscious too, and even a small shift in them in a different direction can change our whole life.

A growth mindset is flourishing when you have problems and see the downsides not as a lack of intellect, but as an opportunity to grow.

During our earliest years, we form all of our behavior and our relationship with happiness and challenging situations based on these two mindsets. This impacts all the areas of our lives from professional to personal, and it determines our ability to be happy.

The research that Dweck conducted showed that people do differ in abilities and preferences, but everyone can change and grow if they put in the required effort.

So, Can We All Become Einstein?

The results of her research are that not everyone can become Einstein. However, people with a growth mindset think that the real potential of a human is not predictable. We cannot predict what a person can achieve with years of hard work, dedication, and learning.

The main benefit of a growth mindset is its focus on learning and developing, and not on the approval of our surroundings. Its main characteristic is the profound belief that human qualities, like intelligence, creativity, and even the ability for love and friendship, can be developed with effort and with conscious practice.

The thought process in the growth mindset looks something like this:

“Why would I waste time trying to prove again and again my worth when for the same period I could get better?

Why would I hide my flaws, and not work on them?

And why search for stable ways instead of an experience that would lead me to growth?”

If it sounds familiar to you – good, if not – no worries, you can develop this kind of mindset!

To challenge yourself and to do it constantly, especially if the things in your life are not working as you expected, is one of the bold characteristics of a growth mindset.

This is the mindset that allows you to succeed in the hardest times of your life.

How Fixed Mindset Impacts Our Lives?

People with a fixed mindset see risk and effort as a lack of their abilities as if they are lacking something to solve the problem.

If you believe that your qualities are not going to change through life, it will lead you to one particular set of thoughts and actions. However, if you believe that your abilities are prone to develop, you will have different thoughts and actions, which will lead you to a completely different life. We are returning to the beginning of this writing – why people with similar backgrounds and starting points can lead completely different lives?

In one world – the world of fixed abilities – achievement is connected to the need to prove oneself, to prove you are intelligent and talented. This is self-affirmation.

In the other world – a world where your abilities can change – everything is calling you to learn something new. This is self-development.

People with fixed mindsets will not want to risk losing their reputation and will decide to work on the same project to prove their intelligence. The definition of success for those with a growth mindset is achieving more and more by constantly challenging themselves.

Mindset And Feedback

A fixed mindset listens to feedback that demonstrates their current competency but ignores information that could help them grow and learn.

If they didn’t do something correctly they had already added this to a list of failures.

People with a growth mindset are open to hearing information that could help them widen their knowledge, regardless of whether they have done something successfully or not.

Their goal is to learn, not to define right and wrong.

Ability or Effort?

There is an interesting study, again conducted by Dweck, they had two groups:

One was praised for their abilities, the other for their efforts.

The conclusion is surprising:

Complementing abilities led students to have a fixed mindset. They did not want to solve more complex assignments, and they did not want to do anything that could affect their self-image.

The other group, which was praised for its efforts, behaved very differently. 90% of them wanted new complex assignments to learn more.

For the fixed mindset success was a sign that they were intelligent, lack of success means that they are lacking intelligence.

The students that were praised for their efforts – challenges, and problems are all just a sign that they need to try harder. This is not a sign that they are unhappy or unintelligent.

A fixed mindset is accompanied by an internal monologue with constant evaluation. In a growth mindset, the inner monologue is constantly looking for new ways to learn and grow, discovering creative ways to act.

Does this sound familiar?

Final Thoughts

Mindsets have a critical role in what people can achieve.

People with fixed mindsets believe that abilities are not changeable, whereas those with growth mindsets believe that abilities can be developed.

People with a growth mindset collaborate more readily, and they will readily support others. This is because they believe that everybody can achieve their goals, regardless of their starting point if they work hard enough. A growth mindset sees failure as an integral part of life.

Individuals may approach different situations with different mindsets. It is not one or the other mindset, a certain fluidity exists in all of us.

Mindsets are crucial in self-regulation and the ability to improve. We can all start developing a growth mindset today, why wait to flourish? After all….
