INSPIRING SUCCESS STORIES TO HELP YOU SUCCEED
1. Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone has one of the most inspiring success stories. Before he made it big he was essentially a starving artist. For many years during and after his college years, he worked odd jobs to pay the bills. And he would do so while simultaneously taking on any acting roles he could find to keep his dreams of becoming a successful actor alive.
It was a struggle that Stallone would endure for many years, seven in fact. Throughout all of those seven challenging years, he would gain a few small roles in a handful of movies. But, none of them were grand enough to get his career launched.
During those seven long years of striving, he came face-to-face with near poverty. Stallone was so desperate for money at one point, he had to sell his wife’s jewelry. He even had to sell his dog because he couldn’t keep him fed. Things got so bad for Stallone that he even had to endure homelessness for a short period of time.
But, his days of struggle as an aspiring actor would not last forever. After facing seemingly insurmountable odds for over seven years, he would finally get his big break. And this break would come after he managed to get a script he wrote in a three day flurry of inspiration, in front of two big-shot directors in Hollywood.
It was this defining moment that would turn the tide for Sylvester Stallone. His career would skyrocket after he negotiated the lead role in the film that would come to be known as ‘Rocky’.
Success eventually comes to those who always dream of her. For a more complete account of Sylvester Stallone’s inspiring success story, you can find it here.
2. Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey’s success story is very unique. From a very early age she experienced a level of adversity and poverty that most people would struggle to overcome. She was born into poverty and a broken home in rural Mississippi. Her parents who were just 18 and 19 when they had her, split soon after she was born. This lead to her being taking in by her grand mother.
And her grandmother was not your typical warm and fuzzy grandmother. No, she was a hard-nosed grandmother who was an extreme disciplinarian who discipline her for even the slightest offenses. But, the poverty and disciplined lifestyle didn’t last forever as she moved back with mother at the age of six.
Oprah would then experience sexual assault at an early age, having been molested as early as 9 by some of her family members. Having been emotionally abandoned, abused, and molested, she eventually started part-taking in extremely risky behaviors. Behaviors which eventually led to her becoming pregnant at the age of 14.
Then, because she got pregnant her mother kicked her out of the house. Oprah would go on to live with her father, only to then lose the baby a week after he was born.
Needless to say, Oprah’s early life was chockfull of struggle, adversity, and tragedy. But, regardless of all of her unfortunate experiences, she decided to turn her life around after she lost her baby. So, she committed herself to getting an education, becoming her best, and to going after her dreams.
She decided to start trusting herself again, and loving herself, and making choices that would improve her life versus destroy it. One day, she garnered enough confidence to participate in a beauty pageant. And it was her participation in this pageant that would eventually lead her into a job working for a radio station doing the news.
Oprah’s love for speaking to an audience set the stage for continued success as she would go on to become a news anchor, which she would eventually leverage to host a TV chat show in Maryland, which ultimately led to her having her morning talk show in Chicago.
And as they say, the rest was history. Oprah overcame massive challenges in her youth. Challenges that side line all too many people. She chose to turn her wounds into wisdom, and went on to become one of the most successful talk show hosts in history (by helping many others do the same) with her own self-named talk show, The Oprah Winfrey show. Oprah is now one of the richest self-made women in America.
3. Arnold Schwarzenegger

But Arnold didn’t care. He knew he didn’t want to live the traditional Austrian life his parents wanted for him. He also knew he wanted to move to America because it was the land of the free.
As such, he hatched a plan to become a success in body-building. Then to leverage that success to get into movies. And sure enough he did just that. He went on to fulfill his vision by becoming the youngest man to ever win a Mr. Universe competition, and then on to win five Mr. Universe titles and seven Mr. Olympia titles.
After reaching what he set out to do in the sport of bodybuilding, he then went on to commit himself to the acting career he had always dreamed of. And sure enough, he would go on to conquer the film industry to the same degree that he conquered the body building world. The depression that would ensue left Rowling seeking out a job as a teacher in another country. Soon after, she married and had a child, which would delay her aspirations even further.

However, despite her challenges, Rowling would persist in the creation of her book. And she did so by seizing every spare moment she could while her child slept to write. Until finally the day came when she completed her manuscript.
Of course, even after Rowling finished her manuscript obstacles still remained. 12 different publishers rejected her novel. The rejection took a toll on her spirits, and she almost quit. Of course, this internship wouldn’t last forever, but it lasted just long enough for him to learn how sneak in to the studios undetected so he could continually gather intel on what it would take to become successful in the business.
Finally, the day would come that he managed to get a film he created in the hands of film executives. But, he had to first overcome the film executives multiple attempts to make him give up.
After being told that the film size was not the right size multiple times, and remaking the entire demo to the recommended sizes every time, the executives finally relented and gave him his film a shot. The movie would go on to win major awards, and solidified Steven Spielberg’s place within the industry.

No, instead he would find ways to play the sport he loved even without the ball. He would use bottles, rags, or pretty much anything he could find to make a makeshift ball just so he could play.

Here’s why, at age of 11, Messi was cut from his soccer team because they thought he was too small. And he was small, but it was because he had a growth hormone deficiency which made him a lot smaller than all the other kids his age.
Fortunately, Messi didn’t let this deter him. Instead, he would place himself on a strict regimen where he would inject growth hormones into himself. And he would go on to do inject himself with this hormone for seven days in one leg, and then seven days in the other.
Messi would keep this routine up for six years.

Because now, he is one of the highest paid soccer players with a staggering net worth, and is considered by legions of fans to be one of the best soccer players of all time due to his winning soccer’s highest achievement, ‘The Ballon d’Or’ six times.
Success requires sacrifice.
9. Michael Jordan
Since we mentioned the greatest of all time in soccer, we can’t leave out the man many consider to be the greatest of all time in basket ball. Now, most people aren’t’ aware of this, but when Michael Jordan was merely a sophomore in high school, he already had big dreams of being a great basketball player.
So he did something brash and tried out for the Varsity team. But, his coaches cut him from the team. They didn’t see his value nor did they think he was ready.
This rejection hit Jordan especially hard because of his oversized dreams and expectations. In fact, the rejection hit him so hard he went home afterwards and cried in his closet.
Even though that rejection still bothered Jordan, he dusted himself off and went all in for the JV team. He trained like no other in the off season and grew four extra inches. And the following year he tried out for the varsity team again. But this second time around, he made it.
Not only did he make it, but he went on to become the team’s MVP, making the All-American Team, and eventually earned himself a college scholarship. And from there, well, you know the rest of the story.
Michael Jordan became the man who would score 32,292 points in a basketball career. Jordan became the man who acquired 6 NBA championships. The man who also collected 5 MVP titles, and is now considered the greatest basketball player of all time.
For all the success stories we’ve covered, this one clearly shows the importance of having great expectations, and resilience after rejection.
10. Paulo Coelho
Over 30 years ago a book titled ‘The Alchemist’ was published and hardly anyone noticed. The author of this book was a man named Paulo Coelho, and he was told by the first bookseller to carry his book, that only one person bought a copy after it was released. As bad as it was to hear about the grim results Coelho remained confident in his work.
Paulo Coelho waited for better results to appear. Unfortunately, six months passed before he sold his next copy. Oddly, the person who bought his first book was the same person who bought the second.
After that first year the publisher decided the book was a flop and ended Coelho’s contract. Fortunately, though, Coelho shrugged off that initial defeat. He made up his mind to not give in. So Coelho doubled down to pursue his vision with even more fervor by finding another publisher.
“Now, Coelho found a new publisher, but it was no easy task, as he encountered rejection after rejection. But, after many repeated rejections, he finally landed that new publisher, and with it, another opportunity to capture his dream.
From that point forward Coelho’s dreams started to come true. At first, he only sold three thousand books. But the sales kept trickling in. And as time went by, he would sell ten thousand, and then 100 thousand, and so on and so forth.
Coelho’s luck has yet to run out. His books sales continue to grow year over year, with now over 150 million and counting copies of ‘The Alchemist’ having been sold. Even more staggering is the fact that he sold over 320 million books when including all of his other works. But, it all started with that first book!
Paulo Coelho’s success story shows that if you truly want something bad enough, all the universe really will conspire to help you achieve the impossible.
11. Abraham Lincoln
Most of us know of this great man because of what he did for those who were in bondage in the United States of America. He delivered the Emancipation Proclamation; a massive accomplishment which ultimately led to the abolition of slavery.
But, what most don’t realize about Abraham Lincoln, is that he has one of the most impressive rap sheets when it comes to overcoming defeat.
In short, his success story consists of a list of failures and set backs so sizable, that you would hardly think it belonged to one of the most accomplished and respected presidents of the United States of America.
Here’s a great example of the many failures Lincoln endured, with a few victories he managed to sprinkle in over his lifetime:
1832: Lost his job
1832: Defeated for legislature
1833: Failed in business
1834: Elected to legislature
1835: The woman he loved died
1836: Had a nervous breakdown
1838: Defeated for Speaker
1843: Defeated for nomination for Congress
1848: Lost re-nomination
1849: Reject for Land Officer
1854: Defeated for Senate
1856: Defeated for nomination for Vice-President
1858: Again defeated for Senate
1860: Elected for President of The United States of America
To be sure, Lincoln virtually failed his way to success. His recorded failures helps us realize the truth behind the Michael Jordan quote we mentioned earlier, and that is…that the key to success is through failure.
Out of all of these success stories, this one in particular should convince you that just because you’ve yet to succeed in life, it doesn’t mean you never will. So, keep pushing and preparing for your big day, because it will come, so long as you keep eye on the prize and keep moving forward.

12. Tom Brady
One of our favorite inspirational stories of success comes from Tom Brady. Brady didn’t follow the typical athletic path into the NFL. While most athletes begin getting groomed for the sport by the 3rd grade, Tom Brady wouldn’t set foot onto the grid iron until the 9th grade.
In fact, his debut into actually getting onto the football field didn’t come until his Sophomore year. His moment came when the starting quarterback for the JV team quit. Fortunately for Brady, that opportunity helped him capture the starting Varsity QB role by the time his Junior year arrived.
After finding success at the high school level, Brady would eventually go on to become a Michigan Wolverine. But success wasn’t a given for Brady at this level. Nope, he had to earn it.
In fact, Brady came into the program as an underdog, with seven quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart. After almost requesting a transfer to another school, Brady’s determination eventually won him the coveted starting position by the time he was a Junior.
The obstacles Brady would face continued on even into the Pros. Brady had his mind set to play in the pros, unfortunately there was little interest in him during the draft. In fact, he was selected in the 6th round as the 199th pick, just barely making it into the league.
Pretty much every coach in the league grossly underrated and underestimated Brady. His draft report from 2000 NFL draft actually stated the following qualities:
- Poor Build | Skinny
- Lacks Great Physical Stature and Strength
- Lacks Mobility and Ability to Avoid The Rush
- Lacks a Really Strong Arm
- Can’t Drive The Ball Down Field
- Doesn’t Throw a Really Tight Spiral
- System-Type Player Who Can Get Exposed if Forced to Adlib
- Easily Knocked Down
Remember, Tom brady was not the highest rated quarterback, he wasn’t the most well groomed for the sport, nor was he the best athlete. In addition, he didn’t have the best numbers, or even the best mechanics. However, Tom Brady did have the most heart and determination.
Thus, through sheer willpower, he pushed himself to becoming one of the greatest football players of all times. And he has proved his case with the following accolades:
- Most NFL Championships By a Player (7x)
- Most Games Won By a Quarterback
- Most Games Played By a Quarterback
- Most Combined Passing Yards
- Most Touchdown Passes
- Most 4th Quarter Comebacks
- Best Touchdown to Interception Ratio
- 5 Time Super Bowl MVP
- 3 Time MVP of the NFL
- 2 Time NFL All-Decade Team Player
- Only Player to Win a Super Bowl for Both The AFC & NFC

“Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History.”
First things first, we believe success leaves clues, which is why we study uber-successful people like Jeff Bezos. Every story possesses potential insights that can teach, guide, and benefit us in unimaginable ways, if we simply take the time to look.
That said, if you’re ready to discover more about how Jeff Bezos became the e-commerce juggernaut of the 21st century, then let’s dive in:
THE JEFF BEZOS SUCCESS STORY
Early Days
Jeff Bezos was born in1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to a struggling teen mother. His parent’s divorced when he was just 17 months old, but his mother found just enough work to keep the lights on and the family fed.
Bezos’ mother eventually married again, and their life would slowly normalize after his adopted father graduated from college and found work as an engineer in Texas.
Potentially influenced by his step-father, Bezos had a love for mechanics, machines, and especially computers. While studying at Princeton University, he initially he set out to study space as a physics major, but he eventually latched onto computer science and electrical engineering, believing he could make a bigger contribution in these fields.[1]
That Beginning Career in Finance
After graduating from Princeton in 1986, Bezos found work at several firms on Wall Street, including Fitel, Bankers Trust and the investment firm D.E. Shaw. In 1990, Bezos became D.E. Shaw’s youngest vice president.
On the heels of that success and with the financial backing he needed to start his own business, he began laying the groundwork to become the entrepreneur he always wanted to be. After working four years in the finance industry, Bezos would eventually make his move by quitting his job to start his own online business.
Bezos managed to eventually launch an online bookstore and the rest, as they say is history. Because as legend has it, this small startup would grow to become the famous Amazon.com of today, even though it originally started off as a modest online bookstore.
Those who were around during Amazon’s early years remember buying new and used books and the innovation that it took to bring that formerly brick and mortar business to the world wide web. Amazon was a great starting point for Jeff Bezos and his success only grew from there.
Amazon and Cementing a Legacy
Amazon.com got it’s start on July 16, 1995, after Bezos asked 300 friends to beta test his site. It was a risky move and he was betting not only his financial investments but also his name and his reputation on his ability to build a successful company in the new and still very volatile online market.
In the months leading up to launch, Jeff and a few friends were building the software needed to run the site and operating out of a garage and basement. His dedication and determination to make it work is the stuff that inspires new entrepreneurs today to keep pressing onward with their dreams.
In the first month, the site was selling books across the US and in over 30 foreign countries. In two months, sales reached $20,000 a week, growing faster any of the team members could have envisioned. Two years later, Amazon.com went public and really started to make a name as an upstart e-commerce company.
Two years later, they proved the skeptics wrong and had not only held its ground but grown by leaps and bounds, becoming an e-commerce leader. While many business went away during the dot.com bust of the early ’90s, Amazon flourished and saw sales go from $510,000 in 1995, to $1.6 billion just four years later, to then over $17 billion by 2011.
By September 2018, Amazon was valued at more than $1 trillion, making it the second company to hit that milestone, and reaching it only a few weeks after Apple did. To this day, Amazon is still valued at a whopping $1.1 trillion.
Owner of ‘The Washington Post’
Towards the end of 2013, Bezos made headlines once again on the worldwide stage among business owners and wealthy tycoons when he purchased The Washington Post, one of the oldest and most well known news publications in the United States.
He also acquired a few additional smaller publications and included them all under the umbrella parent company for a grand total of $250 million.
Needless to say, you know you’ve made it when you begin buying historical and reputable news organizations. And indeed, by 2013 Jeff Bezos had “made it”.
Blue Origin
Of course, Bezos was making other big moves prior to 2013. For instance, in 2000, Bezos made an entrepreneurial move once again when he founded Blue Origin. This time Jeff’s eyes were on the sky as this was an aerospace company that was set up in order to design and develop technologies aimed at make space travel accessible and affordable for more people.
For a decade and a half, the company operated quietly and once things were really kicking off, around 2017, Bezos began selling $1 billion in Amazon stock annually to fund Blue Origin to further fund and push developments of new aerospace technology.
Two short years later NASA announced that Blue Origin was one of the select few companies to being assisting with 19 technology projects designed to help NASA once again go to the moon and finally reach Mars. Today Blue Origin is making headlines for Bezos and itself with unprecedented advancements in space travel.
Stepping Down as CEO and Moving Forward
In February 2021, Amazon announced that Bezos would step down as CEO in the third quarter of the year. But this was not the end for Bezos and he still plans to be involved with the company that he helped to build, literally from the ground up.
Since stepping down, Bezos has transitioned to executive chair of Amazon’s board and continues to be highly involved with the trajectory of the company.
As of late, his sights are set on launching a network of Montessori schools, and pioneering the robotaxi industry.
With that said, he shows no signs of slowing down or putting an end to the curiosity, motivation, and drive that made him into the crowning example of possibility that he has come to be known for.

So, if you’re ready to learn about Tyler Perry’s inspiring success story while gaining a few insights that could potentially lead to higher achievement, let’s get started.
TYLER PERRY’S STORY OF SUCCESS
Early Days | A Painful Past
Tyler Perry was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1969. He had two other siblings and was raised in a home with no shortage of problems. Perry experienced horrific physical and psychological abuse at the hands of his own father.[1]
He also often witnessed his father beating his mother on countless occasions as well, and he experienced sexual abuse by a various adults in his youth as well. Things were so bad, that Perry described his own upbringing as a living hell. A hell that he’d often have to seek refuge from by either hiding underneath the floorboards of his home, or escaping within his own mind to an imaginary park when things would get too difficult in his life.
Between his teen years and his twenties, Tyler’s trauma would eventually turn to rage. During these years he would go on to burn down a house, burn up a car, steal, get kicked out of school, become violent on occasion, and was ultimately a miserable wreck to be around. Needless to say, Tyler Perry had an extremely painful past. But, his early challenges wouldn’t last forever.
After watching an episode on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Tyler Perry learned about the therapeutic effect writing could have on his life. As such, he took up writing letters to himself to heal his wounds from the past. And, as fate would have it, those letters would eventually become the foundation on which he would build his future off of.
The Slow Climb
Tyler Perry would eventually use those letters he wrote to himself as the basis for his first play ‘I Know I’ve Been Changed’. At the age of 22, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia and would go on to invest his life savings into this play.
But, his success was not immediately forthcoming. In fact, his play wasn’t well received at all initially However, Perry persisted. While holding various small jobs to pay the bills, Perry would take a shot at getting his play off the ground for a few weeks at a time each year.
And instead of taking the advice from many of the well-meaning friends and family members around him who urged for him to go and find a respectable career, he chose not to give up. Instead of quitting, he would double down each time on his play by tweaking it, and then sending it back out into the world.
And each time he tried his luck again with the play, it wouldn’t receive the warm reception that he was going for. Fortunately though, the reviews for his play slowly improved, giving Perry something to work with. So, for seven long years, Tyler Perry kept working on his craft, methodically revising and improving the play until the day came when audiences finally started warming up to his work.
Success Realized
Sure, Tyler Perry’s success was slow to arrive, but after years of effort, many flops, and countless discouragements, his luck eventually started to change. It was 1998, when his production started to create sellout crowds, and got so large that he had to move his act to a larger theater.
Perry finally “made it”. His dream was being realized, and as his popularity and the demand for his show grew, so did his success.
In 2000 he presented a play known as ‘I Can Do Bad All by Myself’, and it brought to life the larger than life character known as Madea. And it was from this point that Perry’s success would go into overdrive. He produced a few more plays over the years, and then in 2005, his talent was sought on “The Big Screen”, and thus he made the leap into film.
He released his first film known as ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ which would go on to gross over $50 million. Then he went on to create ‘Madea’s Family Reunion’, ‘Daddy’s Little Girls’, ‘Why Did I Get Married?’, ‘Meet The Browns’, ‘The Family That Preys’, ‘Madea Goes To Jail’, and many many others.[2]
When success arrived for Tyler Perry, it came in the form of a flood, and his success has yet to cease or slow.
Tyler Perry Is Winning
He’s since gone on to become a New York Times best-selling author, create over 17 movies, 20 stage plays, and seven popular television shows, and is considered the most successful African American filmmaker in history.
He’s won two NAACP Image Awards, a Boston Society of Film Critics Award, two BET Comedy Awards, one BET Best Movie Award, and an award for best supporting actor by the African -American Film Critics Association.
Tyler Perry’s success and wealth continues to flourish. He founded Tyler Perry studios, a growing production studio based out of Atlanta, Georgia, which is currently the largest studio in the United States, and pulls in over $907 million in revenue a year.[3]
He’s managed to consistently grow his wealth over the years, and has surpassed the billionaire mark in terms of his net worth. In short, Tyler Perry is winning.
Success Ethos | Tyler Perry Success Story
Now that we’ve covered Tyler Perry’s success journey, let’s tease out exactly what helped him achieve his massive success.
First things first, Tyler was intentional about what he wanted. He followed his dreams. His success wouldn’t really be much of a success if it wasn’t something he desperately wanted for himself. So, the fact that Tyler Perry was intentional about having a dream, and then making that dream work is important.
The next element that lead to Tyler Perry finally realizing the success he sought was his persistence and determination. Had he quit on year three, four, or five during those first seven years when he was struggling to get his play off the ground, his play never would have reached it’s potential. But, he persisted and iterated his offering until it became irresistible to his audiences.
And lastly, much of Tyler Perry’s success can be attributed to his focus. Had Tyler put his attention on two or three other plays in attempt to find success, he very likely wouldn’t have found the winning combination within his one play that would eventually win over the audience.
Here are a few of his own quotes on the matter:
1. “Know your intention as to why you do what you do. And I promise you, if your intention is right, you will be successful.” – Tyler Perry
2. “I don’t think dreams die – I think that people give up.” – Tyler Perry
3. “Narrow your focus to one idea, one. And make it work. That will give birth to all the others.” – Tyler Perry

THE STORY OF EARL NIGHTINGALE
Earl Nightingale | A Success Story
Earl Nightingale’s story is a true rags to riches story. Nightingale was born in 1921 in Long Beach California. He was a Depression-era child, who at the age of 12, during the height of the Great Depression, had to move into a literal tent after his father abandoned the family. His mother moved the family to tent city, a makeshift form of government housing created to assist families during the Great Depression.
Nightingale’s experience with poverty, and watching his mother struggle to barely make ends meet to take care of him and his two brothers frustrated him. In fact, it bothered him so much, that he decided to figure out why some people have money, and lots of it, while many others struggled to earn the bare minimum.
This began Earl Nightingale’s quest for the secret to success. And from 1933 to 1950 he went on a mission to discover how people can go from poverty to success. He read every book he could get his hands on. He also questioned every adult whom he suspected of “that special knowledge” of the key to success.
And it was at the ripe age of 29 when he finally had his “ah-ha” moment. At the age of 29, he finally cracked the code while reading Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich’. The words that stood out to him, and hit him like a ton of bricks was the following:
“We Become What We Think About.”
– Napoleon hill –
Early Career
Now, before Earl Nightingale’s made his key discovery, he went about to make his living by joining the Marines. Soon after joining, he would eventually get stationed in Hawaii.
In fact, he was aboard the U.S.S. Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. And he was one of only 334 marines who survived the attack on the ship out of a total of 1,511other crewmates.
Before his service would end in the military, Nightingale happened to stumble upon radio by volunteering to be an announcer on evenings and weekends. He volunteered for this job for the sole purpose of picking up what he thought could be a good skillset to have once he re-entered the civilian world. And his instincts paid off.
Earl Nightingale would enter into the broadcasting industry soon after his time in the Marines came to an end, and he took the industry by storm. He started off his Radio career in Phoenix, AZ.
But after a few short years, opportunity quickly presented itself. As such, he soon found himself working for one of the most prominent radio stations at the time; WGN radio out of Chicago, IL.
It wasn’t long after this, that Earl Nightingale really hit his stride. In fact, by 1957, at the age of 35 Earl Nightingale had officially “made it”. Nightingale was successful enough to officially retire.
No doubt, Earl was able to achieve such staggering success by applying the secret to success that he discovered just 7 years earlier.
The Making of a Legend
Earl Nightingale would lean into the next phase of his life as the owner of an insurance company. He invested his money into the purchase of an insurance company, with much of his new found wealth derived from his success within the broadcasting industry.
And it was this experience that would would ultimately lead to Earl Nightingale’s true legacy. As the owner of an insurance company, Earl would typically give motivational speeches to his insurance reps often.
However, one day he was preparing to do some travelling out of town, and the sales manager asked him if he could record one of his famous speeches to keep his team motivated while he was gone. Nightingale agreed to the request, and serendipitously, the result was one of the first audio-recordings of the self-development industry. It was a seemingly small act that would essentially become a revolutionary moment.
Word got out of Nightingale’s inspiring recorded sales speeches. And soon after, he was asked to record his accumulated advice on how to others can achieve similar success. And it was from here that one of the best motivational/self-help recordings of all-time was born: ‘The Strangest Secret’.
Once “The Strangest Secret” was complete, and word got out about how insightful and inspiring the work was, demand skyrocketed and caught Earl Nightingale off-guard. Once Nightingale partnered with friend Lloyd Conant to handle bottlenecking issues on orders, the audio-recording would become a national best-seller.
Amazingly, the wisdom from that recording is still impacting millions of people all over the world to this day. In fact, snippets from this classic can be found all over the web; here’s one such example:

That said, if Earl Nightingale managed to preserve his wealth over the years in a high yield savings account, his $38 million would be worth approximately $95 million after taking inflation into account.
Here’s another fun fact. Had Earl Nightingale invested his entire $38 million net worth into the SP500 back in 1989, it would be valued at roughly $497 million today.

Earl Nightingale Success Lessons
Below are just a few of Earl Nightingale’s key success lessons derived from his own words. These quotes are from two of his best-selling works. That said, they should provide a glimpse of the wisdom contained within his classic books, and best-selling audio books ‘The Strangest Secret’, and ‘Lead The Field.” Enjoy:
“Whatever We Plant In Our Subconscious Mind And Nourish With Repetition And Emotion Will One Day Become Reality.”
– Earl Nightingale –
This quote above is the essence of his discovery of the secret of success; namely, that we become what we think about. So, be careful what you put into your mind (news/media/etc…). And pay careful attention to what you are thinking about (because you’ll usually get more of it).
“We Will Receive Not What We Idly Wish For, But What We Justly Earn. Our Rewards Will Always Be In Exact Proportion To Our Service.”
– Earl Nightingale –
No doubt, this success insight stems from his experience through life, and his keen observations that the riches you receive, usually comes down to the exact value you gave through your product or service offering.
“Whatever The Great Majority Is Doing On Any Given Circumstance, If You’ll Do Exactly The Opposite, You’ll Probably Never Make Another Mistake As Long As You Live.”
– Earl Nightingale –
If success was easy, everyone would achieve it. So, the best way to ensure you are not successful, is to listen to and follow the crowd. This bit of Earl Nightingale wisdom is still accurate to this day.
“Never Give Up On A Dream Just Because Of The Time It Will Take To Accomplish It. The Time Will Pass Anyway.”
– Earl Nightingale –
One of the keys to success, aside from being vigilant about what we think about, is persistence. Too many people let their doubts (negative thinking) talk them out of putting in the effort because of what almost always appears to be an uphill battle. Pro Tip: All striving is an uphill battle.
“Success Is The Progressive Realization Of A Worthy Ideal.”
– Earl Nightingale –
This is a great piece of wisdom by Earl Nightingale. It’s key because so many people think that success is what others say it is. But this isn’t true. Success is what you decide it to be. And so long as you’ve made up your mind what your success is, and you commit to making continual progress on it until you achieve it, you are on the path of success.

“Work Hard. Work Smart. Be Patient.”
– gary vee –
Gary Vee, as he’s come to be known, is a successful businessman and multimillionaire, and his inspiring success story can both teach and guide us in a variety of ways. So, with that being said, let’s dive in to the makings of this successful entrepreneur, to see what his story can teach us.
THE GARY VEE STORY
Early Life | Gary Vaynerchuk Success Story
In 1978, when Gary Vaynerchuk was just three years old, he and his family immigrated to the U.S. from Belarus, a country which at the time was part of the former Soviet Union. His family first lived in Queens New York with relatives, but they would eventually move to Edison, New Jersey. [1]
His father initially took a job as a stock boy in a liquor store. And like most immigrants do, he worked his tail off and was smart with every penny he earned for many years.
Eventually this allowed Gary’s father to slowly but surely gain full ownership of his own liquor store.
Gary would learn much from his father about hard work and hustle, and would get introduced to entrepreneurship at the young age of six. His first taste of entrepreneurship actually came from his experimenting with selling flowers.
Legend has is, that Gary would take flowers from his neighbor’s yard, and then ring the doorbell of that neighbor and with charisma and wit, successfully sell the neighbors’ own flowers back to them.
Gary’s taste for entrepreneurship would grow, and by the age of 7, he was already running a successful lemonade franchise throughout New Jersey, where he had managed to set up 8 different lemonade stands, using his friends to run each location.
However, it was at the age of 13 when Gary Vee would really get his first taste of entrepreneurial success. His breakthrough would come from his ability to generate thousands of dollars every weekend through the selling of baseball cards. Gary learned much about the concept of supply and demand in these formative years.

The Grind
Gary would eventually get pulled into his father’s business; where he was initially put to work bagging ice for $2 an hour. Gary would go on to work for his father for a handful of years in various roles within the family business.
However, after Gary learned about the power of the internet, he would go all in to improve his father’s business. And shortly after graduating from college, Gary would begin leveraging social media and strategic content creation in a way that would take his father’s business from $3 million in annual revenue to $60 million in just a few short years.
How did he do it? Gary set his father’s business up on the internet, renamed the liquor store business to Wine Library. Then, in 2006, he went on to create an extremely entertaining and educational show (called Wine Library TV) that showcased his analyses of various wines and liquors.
Gary leveraged his keen knowledge of wines, his energetic personality, and his consistent daily hustle to create over 1000 episodes to grow the viewership of the show over a five year period. On top of this, Gary paid special attention to what his audience was interested in, wanted more of, and then effectively executed on providing them the engagement and answers they wanted to see.
The result? An explosion in revenue growth for his father’s liquor store!
In his own words, this is what Gary has had to say about his initial success with Wine Library:
“I’ve always credited the success of that venture to my hustle and single-minded dedication to engaging with my fans and customers by answering every email or blog comment I received and going overboard to show my appreciation for their business.” – Gary Vaynerchuk
The Next Chapter
After dramatically growing his father’s business, Gary would start the next chapter of his entrepreneurial career. Taking what he learned from his success with Wine Libary TV, Gary would then leverage his seasoned social media expertise to create his own full-service advertising agency. He would name this new endeavor Vayner Media.
Gary started small with Vayner Media. In fact, in his early days, he had to use another company’s conference room, because he didn’t have the capital to rent the office space that would allow him to have his own.
But, he persisted, and did what he does best. He hustled to get attention, and that attention translated into business. And, after giving a successful public speech in New York, Gary’s media agency would take off.[2]
Shortly there after, Gary would also ink his first million dollar 10-book deal with HarperCollins. Since then, he’s published multiple books with five of them landing on the New York Time’s Best Seller list.
Now, Gary runs Vayner Media as the CEO, is the chairman of Vayner X, and has since become synonymous with hustle, execution, and digital advertising. And when he’s not helping his client’s build their businesses, he is jet setting across the globe inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs with his charismatic and thought-provoking public speeches.

But, after practicing law for a handful of years, Mel started having second thoughts about being an attorney. It was stressful, it caused her lots of anxiety, and it was a title she wasn’t really excited to be associated with when people would ask her “So what do you do?”.
So, she hired a life coach who would ultimately encouraged her to become a life coach herself. And in 2001 she launched her own self-help coaching company that focused on personal development and executive business coaching.
Her business grew as she started to acquire clients all over the country. She eventually created her own radio show, blog, and things were humming along for Mel, at least for a while.
Transforming Trials Into Triumph
However, it was around 2008, when Mel Robbins experienced a serious inflection point in her life. Like many other Americans at the point in time in history, Mel Robbins life’s started to unravel as well.
Her husband’s restaurant business was on the verge of failing, she was over $800K in debt, her marriage was on the rocks, and she felt like she was on the cusp of losing everything.[3]
In addition to this, she was suffering from bouts of depression and anxiety that had her not wanting to get out of bed.
She used a ‘5 second rule’ which she invented to help herself get moving and get into action. The idea behind the rule, is that during any moment of hesitancy, or moment when you know you need to do something, you automatically start counting down from five, and once you get to one, you take immediate and deliberate action on that “thing” you were avoiding, or know you need to do.
This rule became an effective method that allowed her to overcome the inertia that had a grip on her life. And it helped her land a job with Cox Media, which transformed into an opportunity on television.
Her enthusiasm attracted the attention of one of CNN’s chiefs, which paved the way for her becoming a high profile legal analyst for CNN. She especially made a name for herself at CNN after covering high profile cases, particularly, the George Zimmerman trial.
Mel Robbins would go on to transform her growing celebrity star power into in various shows. She even did a Ted Ed talk which eventually garnered over 29 million views.
Transformation
Mel has since authored multiple New York Time’s best selling books that have reach millions of people. All of which has helped her with becoming one of the world’s most-booked motivational speakers, thus allowing her to create a multi-million dollar enterprise in the process.
Mel also landed for a short period of time, her own syndicated talk show, ‘The Mell Robbins Show.’[4] However, these days, she’s leaning heavily into her podcast and YouTube channel which has garnered nearly 100 millions views and over 1.55 million subscribers.
Success Ethos
So what’s Mel Robbins’s secret to success? Well, her story shows she is no stranger to taking action and leaning into things. Having gone from law school, to being an attorney, to coaching, to writing books, building and selling businesses, to doing speaking events, and her more recently venturing into podcasting and managing a YouTube channel, it’s clear, she’s highly ambitious and always on the go.
So, we’d have to pinpoint much of her success to her drive, ambition, and worth ethic. It’s also clear that her infectious enthusiasm and energetic personality has very likely influenced her ability to land jobs in the entertainment world.
Having said that, here’s a few of her own takes on success in her own words:
1. “Ambition is the first step to success. The second step is action.” – Mel Robbins
2. “Picasso created nearly 100 masterpieces in his lifetime. But what most people don’t know is that he created a total of more than 50,000 works of art. That’s two pieces of art a day. Success is a numbers game. You are not going to win if you keep telling yourself to wait. The more often you choose courage, the more likely you’ll succeed.” – Mel Robbins
3. “If you want to reinvent yourself, you must ignore your fears, your excuses, your self-doubt.” – Mel Robbins
4. “Start before you are ready. Don’t prepare, begin!” – Mel Robbins

Achievements like having the most wins by a quarterback in NFL history, or the most touchdowns by a quarterback, and having won the most NFL championships. Indeed, these are just a few of the many accomplishments Tom Brady has managed to achieve during his sensational and long career. And, it’s why we aim to dive into how such a legend came to be in this Tom Brady Success Story special.
The aim of this page is to inspire as well as provide key insights about Tom Brady’s success. We believe success leaves clues, and that every high achieve leaves a blueprint that others can follow in the wake of their success. Thus, we want to provide you with a better understanding of how Tom Brady became the legend he is today, as well as a few insights you can leverage to help you win in business, work, and at life in general.
So, if you’re ready to start learning from Tom Brady’s inspiring success story, let’s get to it.
TOM BRADY SUCCESS STORY
Tom Brady was born in San Mateo, California, and was the youngest of three other siblings, all of which were his sisters. The young Brady grew up idolizing players like Steve Young, Dan Marino, and especially Joe Montana. However, he didn’t fall into the typical athletic path followed by most players who make it into the NFL. While most kids start to get groomed to become gods of the grid iron around the 3rd grade, Tom Brady wouldn’t start playing football until he was a freshman in high school.
Brady’s debut into football as a freshman was hardly special and certainly not noteworthy. In fact, Tom Brady was initially a bench warmer, but he eventually got his shot to play his Sophomore year when the starting quarterback for the JV team quit. And fortunately for Brady, that opportunity helped him segue into the starting Varsity QB role when his Junior year arrived.
After developing a passion for the sport, Tom Brady would commit to playing at the next level. As such, he honed in on marketing himself to scouts, and ensuring he stood out as a player worthy of consideration. Brady would eventually catch the eye of a handful of big name universities. But he eventually opted for Michigan University.
The Under Dog
Tom Brady’s decision to become a Michigan Wolverine didn’t automatically mean he would find success on the field. Nor did it mean it would happen overnight.
In fact, Brady came into the program as an underdog, with seven other quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart. To get his chance, Brady would have to put his aim to outshine each and every single one of them into overdrive. And with laser-like focus, he would do just that, earning himself the back-up slot by the time he was a Sophomore. But he hadn’t hit his mark just yet.
And similar to his high school days, Brady had to remain humble and patient as he waited for the perfect opportunity to seize his moment. That day would eventually come two long years after his arriving at Michigan. He would finally win the starting quarterback position for the Wolverines his Junior year. And the rest was history, as he went on to lead his team to two bowl games, that last of which they won over Alabama.
Underrated & Underestimated
During his final days of college, Tom Brady’s coach received only one call of interest from the NFL for his star quarterback. But, that didn’t deter Brady and his goal of playing football in the NFL. He set his sights on the NFL draft, and had high hopes of getting picked up early. But, Brady would be let down. Instead of getting chosen early like he felt he should have, it wasn’t until the 6th round as the 199th pick that he would eventually get to breathe a sigh of relief.
Tom Brady was underrated and underestimated. In fact his draft report from 2000 NFL draft noted the following qualities:
- Poor Build | Skinny
- Lacks Great Physical Stature and Strength
- Lacks Mobility and Ability to Avoid The Rush
- Lacks a Really Strong Arm
- Can’t Drive The Ball Down Field
- Doesn’t Throw a Really Tight Spiral
- System-Type Player Who Can Get Exposed if Forced to Adlib
- Gets Knocked Down Easily
There is no doubt that Brady wasn’t the highest rated, he wasn’t the best athlete, he didn’t have the best numbers, the best mechanics, but he did have the qualities that have proven to matter most: heart and determination. And Brady used both qualities to prove to all the NFL, and its fans, that he is and was the quarterback who should have been chosen first in that NFL draft. The draft was like a slap to the face for Brady, and he would take the experience to heart, using it to fuel his future achievements and prove his worth.
Absolute Proof
A since 2001, Tom Brady has been doing just that. During his second year with the New England Patriots, after the starting Drew Bledsoe was sidelined due to an injury, Brady took to the field, has since come off. And for the past 20 plus years, Brady has been stacking and collecting achievements and accolades like a kid collects comics.
For the past 20 years, Tom Brady has been providing to the world, absolute proof, that he is the best of the best when it comes to football. He has the evidence to prove it, and here it is:
- Super Bowl Champion 7 Times Over
- 5 Time Super Bowl MVP
- 3 Time MVP of the NFL
- 2 Time NFL All-Decade Team Player
- Most Games Won By a Quarterback
- Most Games Played By a Quarterback
- Most Combined Passing Yards
- Most Touchdown Passes
- Most 4th Quarter Comebacks
- Most NFL Championships
- Best Touchdown to Interception Ratio
- Only Player to Win a Super Bowl for Both The AFC + NFC
And the list can and does go on and on. Tom Brady has shown absolute proof of his greatness.

Tom Brady’s Success Ethos
Tom Brady went from high school benchwarmer to underrated draft pick, to ultimately becoming one of the NFL’s most celebrated players. But how did he do this? How did Tom Brady become so successful?
Well, as mentioned earlier, Tom Brady didn’t have all the sought after qualities and attributes that the other quarterbacks had, but he had the qualities that mattered most. And his number one quality, was his determination to be the best quarterback. In short, he had will power.
And over the past two decades, through sheer will power and focused determination, Brady has managed to get better with every snap. He takes his role as a leader and the quarterback of his team very seriously, leading him to approach every day as another day to prove to himself, his coaches, and his doubters, that not only does he deserves to be on the field, but that he is the best person for the job.
In addition to this, Tom Brady has also revealed his success ethos in his own words. So, we’ve listed his most poignant quotes on success with a short summary on each:
1. “To me, football is so much about mental toughness, it’s digging deep, it’s doing whatever you need to do to help a team win and that comes in a lot of shapes and forms.” – Tom Brady
The magic ingredient for success in life and in sports comes down to mental toughness and extra effort. Champions know it, and Tom Brady knows it.
2. “If you don’t play to win, don’t play at all.” – Tom Brady
Competition has been underrated as of late, in fact many are trying to give it a bad rap these days. But they are mistaken. Because great accomplishments, championships, and victory over anything rarely comes to the person who isn’t striving to win. And much of Brady’s success comes down to purely wanting to win.
3. “I didn’t come in with the opportunity to play right away. I had to earn it.” – Tom Brady
Tom Brady’s humble realization that what he was after would not come easily, or be easily kept, allowed for him to put in the proper levels of preparation, and continued improvement to see him rise to the occasion time and time again.
4. “To me, what separates really good players from great players; execute well under pressure.” – Tom Brady
Lastly, Brady understands that winners, be they athletes in sports, generals and warriors on a battlefield, or executives within a business, win because they possess the poise and calmness of mind to respond effectively when pressed. And this is exactly what Tom Brady has managed to master; effective execution.
